Go To

Basic Trope: A priestess serves as a spiritual "consort" to some deity or other supernatural being.

  • Straight: Aerith is symbolically married to Bob, the God of Tropes. She serves as his priestess.
  • Exaggerated:
    • On religious holidays, Aerith chooses a lucky young man to represent Bob and sleeps with him in a religious ritual.
    • Aerith is a Virgin Sacrifice; the idea being that her soul will be sent to the Great Beyond to be with the gods, and she becomes a lesser goddess herself.
  • Downplayed:
    • Aerith and Bob are not "married", but are considered to be in a "symbolic spiritual union" because she's a priestess.
    • Aerith is a concubine of Bob.
  • Justified:
    • It's part of their religion.
    • Being "married" to Bob is a symbol of Aerith's total devotion to her god, which includes celibacy.
    • It gives her special status- be it some kind of spiritual connection which allows her to receive prophetic insight, and/or as consort to the god, she's his representative on earth and thus allows her to wield (and justify wielding) considerable power and influence. (May make sense if she is the Queen and/or High Priestess.)
    • The marriage predates Bob's ascension to godhood.
  • Inverted: Bob is symbolically married to Aerith the Trope Goddess and serves as her priest.
  • Subverted:
    • Aerith is only a Miko in Bob's shrine.
    • The "god(s)" are actually lesser beings, but still have amazing abilities. Aerith was married to one of them because they knew each other very well, and she agreed with most or all of his ideals.
  • Double Subverted: But Bob appears to her and tells her she is The Chosen One, and will be his wife.
  • Parodied:
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Aerith is not considered a wife or concubine of Bob, just a priestess.
  • Enforced: The producers couldn't hide Alice and Bob's actors' Real Life Relationship.
  • Lampshaded: "You will be the wife of Bob the Trope God..."
  • Invoked: Either Aerith or her family volunteer her to become the God's of Tropes' wife, in concordance to their people's tradition.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Aerith does not want to be married (or sacrificed) to Bob, so she runs away.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Played For Laughs: Bob is the patron god of something ridiculous like toilet plungers.
  • Played For Drama: Aerith is a Human Sacrifice.
