Basic Trope: Someone loses the TV remote.
- Straight: Alice is watching TV, but loses the remote and can't change the channel.
- Exaggerated:
- Alice owns multiple televisions, and loses the remotes for all of them.
- Everyone in Alice's town has lost their TV remotes.
- Downplayed: Alice knows that the remote is somewhere in her living room, so she has a general idea of where it is.
- Justified: Alice's living room is dirty, and she doesn't take good care of her belongings. Her remote's also very small, so it's understandable that she'd lose it.
- Inverted:
- Alice always loses everything, but she can find the TV remote when she needs it.
- Alice has the remote. The TV is lost instead.
- In an Alternate Universe, Bob the remote control loses his tiny inanimate human in the couch cushions.
- Subverted: Alice thinks she's lost the remote, but it turns out to be right next to her.
- Double Subverted:
- That was the remote for her RC car. The TV remote is still lost.
- The remote's batteries are lost, though, and she needs to look for those.
- That's the remote to her old TV, which doesn't use her new TV's protocol and thus is useless.
- Averted: Nobody in the work owns a television.
- Lampshaded: "I've lost the TV remote!"
- Invoked: Bob hides the TV remote somewhere in the house so Alice will have to search for it.
- Implied: Alice grudgingly uses the buttons on the TV itself.
- Defied:
- Alice buys multiple remotes and makes sure she knows where they are.
- Alice gets a TV that isn't dependent on a remote.
- Conversed: "If she's lost the remote, why can't she just go up to the TV and change the channel manually?"
