Basic Trope: A character injures their limb.

  • Straight: Alice breaks her arm.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice breaks both arms and both legs.
    • The entire cast injures one or more limbs.
    • Alice breaks her arm, sprains her ankle, dislocates her other arm and fractures her other leg. Ouch.
  • Downplayed: Alice only has the broken arm for one scene.
  • Justified:
    • Alice fell directly on her arm.
    • Something fell onto Alice's arm.
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted: Alice has her arm in a sling, but then it's revealed that she's just faking it.
  • Double Subverted:
    • She then breaks it for real or injures it another way or injures her leg.
    • It turns out that Bob has broken his arm.
    • Maria, the character played by Alice, is the one who is injured. She's just in character at the moment.
  • Parodied: Alice is a Planimal and breaks a branch.
  • Zigzagged: Alice's arm is in a sling...but she's just pretending...but then she trips and falls over and complains her leg hurts...but it's just grazed...then, Bob limps over....because he has a splinter.
  • Averted: Nobody suffers any limb injury worse than a cut or bruise.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: "Ugh, I can't believe I broke my arm! I have terrible luck!".
  • Invoked: The villain deliberately breaks Alice's arm.
  • Exploited: The villain tries to take advantage of Alice's inability to use her broken arm.
  • Defied:
    • Alice protects all four of her limbs vigilantly.
    • Alice deliberately develops the Healing Factor.
  • Discussed: "I have some bad news, Alice broke her arm yesterday."
  • Conversed: "Was that the episode where Alice breaks her arm?"
  • Implied: Alice's arm is in a sling.
  • Deconstructed:
  • Reconstructed:
  • Played for Laughs: Alice breaks her arm right before a tennis competition. She's right-handed so she tries to use her left hand but screws up comedicaly.
  • Played for Drama: Alice is the team's only hope to save the day, but at the last minute she breaks her arm and can't fight. Bob, the less competent leader, must step in and improve himself to make up for it.
