Basic Trope: The name of something in a work changes for no reason over the course of a dub.
- Straight: The Japanese series Super-Powered Robot Meter Maids has a character named Nixie Neo in the English dub. The dub keeps this name, but in season 3, her name is suddenly "Kath Coro".
- Exaggerated: Nixie's name changes every season, even though she's clearly still the same character.
- Downplayed: Nixie's surname changes from Neo to Coro, but it was only mentioned offhand once in the series. Her new surname sticks around longer, and her first name is the same.
- Justified:
- Nixie has many names.
- (for downplayed) Mrs. Nixie Coro née Neo.
- Subverted: In the season 3 premiere, someone calls Nixie "Kath Coro". It turns out that they confused her for another robot.
- Double Subverted: They "correct" themselves by saying that Nixie's name is now "Deka Coro", and she affirms this, once again making it inconsistent.
- Parodied: Nixie's name in the dub eventually becomes "That Robot With Multiple Names".
- Zig-Zagged: Nixie's name changes, then goes back to the original dubbed name, then the original text's name, then a brand new name...
- Averted: Nixie's name is the same throughout the series.
- Enforced:
- Moral Guardians had problems with the original name, so the producers were forced to change it.
- The dub was a rush job and the dubbers didn't have time to ensure everything matched up.
- Lampshaded: "Hey, I think Kath's name used to be something else, right?"
- Invoked: Nixie regularly changes her name to something in a different language that can be translated in a variety of ways.
- Exploited: Nixie takes advantage of her changing name to avoid her enemies being able to track her down.
- Defied: The translators ensure that characters' names stay consistent.
- Conversed: "What'd they say? 'Kath'? Wasn't her name Nixie?"
- Deconstructed: English fans of the series are upset by the characters' name changing, seeing it as a sign of the dub being rushed or the dubbers not caring.
- Reconstructed: In the end, Nixie's name is changed back, and the dubbers are more careful with making sure characters' names are the same.
