Basic Trope: Bad clothes for a character, done on purpose with a justification.
- Straight: The Token Human Hiro wears a strange rainbow outfit. All his friends are Fully Dressed Cartoon Animals, and naturally have different tastes in clothes and shoes.
- Exaggerated: Hiro goes to a party and is mistaken for a decoration.
- Downplayed:
- Hiro carries one item of clothing that is considered weird, but the rest looks pretty average.
- Hiro wears a black lounge coat, a white t-shirt, some black jeans baggy enough to not look out of place in a 2000's rap video, and some black and white basketball shoes. He occasionally gets called out for trying to combine two styles that don't usually go together.
- Justified:
- This is already a justification for WTH, Costuming Department?
- Hiro is completely colorblind. While it looks good to him it is eye-scarring if you can see color.
- Hiro portrays a police officer in a B/W show, this outfit gives the same shades of gray as the official uniform without running afoul of the crime of Impersonating an Officer.note
- Except for this outfit, and his undies, all of Hiro's clothing are in the washing machine.
- Inverted: Impossibly Cool Clothes: Everyone likes Hiro's rainbow outfit.
- Subverted: Hiro ditches his outfit after one battle.
- Double Subverted: ...but after his second battle, he picks up another outfit that's even worse than the first!
- Parodied: Hiro wears socks with sandals and everyone reacts like he is wearing the worst combination possible.
- Zig Zagged: Hiro changes his clothes Once an Episode, sometimes looking ridiculously normal, sometimes with a costume that barely looks incredibly stupid.
- Averted: Hiro wears reasonably normal, practical clothes.
- Enforced: "We need an iconic Hiro outfit for our merchandise of him. Let's go way over the top!"
- Lampshaded: "What the hell are you wearing, Hiro?!"
- Invoked: Alice, the team's costume designer, makes Hiro's outfit brightly coloured, because he's the protagonist and deserves to have the most eye-catching costume.
- Exploited: Hiro wears a clashing eyesore of an outfit to dazzle his enemies and make them easier to defeat.
- Defied: Hiro refuses to wear such a ridiculous outfit.
- Discussed: "Wow, Hiro. If this was a cartoon, then your outfit would still be terrible!"
- Conversed: "Are we really supposed to believe that these tacky clothes are supposed to be fancy?"
- Deconstructed: Hiro's rainbow clothing makes him extremely visible during stealth missions.
- Reconstructed:
- Hiro also has an all-black stealth outfit...that looks like bondage gear.
- Hiro's rainbow clothes have some kind of light-bending abilities that make him hard to see.
- Played For Drama:
- Hiro is a desperate attention-seeker who wears crazy clothes in hopes of getting comments about it.
- Hiro clearly didn't want to wear these, and he's perpetually uncomfortable whenever it's even brought up.
- Hiro has a bizarre sense of clothing, which gets him bullied severely.
