Basic Trope: One member of a duo is smart enough to keep silent on an important manner while the other isn't.
- Straight: Alexio and Hank have found out their ally Cale is a changeling traitor in the allies without him noticing. When they talk to him next Alexio mentions noticing of it while Hank admits he likes his talent, ultimately spilling the beans on what they saw.
- Exaggerated: Hank gives an in-depth description on what happened when they saw him.
- Downplayed: Hank says enough to get Cale suspicious, but Alexio cuts in and explains he was likely hallucinating before he can know they saw him.
- Justified:
- Their team runs on an honesty policy, and Hank was a strict abider of that.
- The two hadn't been able to tell Captain Izuru the news yet, so they have wait until Cale leaves to continue on their way.
- Alexio knows Cale will kill them if he learns they saw him changing, so they have to stay quiet about this.
- Inverted: While both guys don't mention it in the slightest Cale figures out anyway that they saw him.
- Subverted:
- Hank is surprisingly able to not talk about it in front of him.
- Hank slips up, but Cale takes it as something else than him being seen.
- Cale states they must have mistook him for someone else rather than admit his true colors.
- Double Subverted:
- It ends up being Alexio who lets loose on what they saw.
- Once they go however Cale chuckles to himself and thanks Hank for being ditzy.
- Alexio plays along, however Hank states they know for sure it's him.
- Averted: Alexio pulls Hank away from Cale when they see him, avoiding the confrontation.
- Enforced: In the original novel Alexio sees Cale change alone, but the show producers decided to have Canon Foreigner Hank join him in seeing it so he could intentionally admit it Cale and up the stakes.
- Lampshaded:Cale: "Ah, you know I love it when people are so dumb they tell you everything they can to your face."
- Invoked: Alexio realizes a changeling could have disguised as Cale, so he intentional has them encounter him so Hank could confess and he could gauge his genuine reaction to it.
- Exploited: Once Alexio realized he is a changeling he denies seeing him even when Hank tries to confirm his presence so that if he does go after Hank he would still be spared.
- Defied: Alexio uses the radio system to contact the captain from another room safely.
- Discussed:Alexio: "Hank, we need to tell the captain Cale is a traitor. Can you keep a secret?"Hank: "What's a secret?"
