Basic Trope: A person in position of power has a hot spouse or lover.

  • Straight: Emperor Bob's wife Alice is young, sexy Trophy Wife.
  • Exaggerated: Emperor Bob has a whole Royal Harem of gorgeous wives.
  • Downplayed: Bob and Alice are Ugly Guy, Hot Wife couple, but nothing too out of ordinary.
  • Justified:
    • Bob can choose whoever he wishes for his spouse, so why not the hottest woman in the Empire?
    • Alice is from another family as part of an Arranged Marriage to cement an alliance. Her being hot is a combination of good genes and good beauty upkeep by her family to ensure Bob doesn't want to "move on".
  • Inverted: Alice is the ugliest person ever.
  • Gender-Inverted: Empress Alice makes the handsome Bob her husband.
  • Subverted:
    • Everyone believes that supermodel Alice is Bob's wife, but in fact the real wife is ugly Carol, who makes Alice work as her stand-in on social occasions.
    • Emperor Bob is actually cheating on his real wife, Empress Faye, with Alice.
  • Double Subverted: It turns out Bob married Alice as well.
  • Parodied: In the world of anthropomorphic food, Cabbage Emperor Bob married Alice the Chili Pepper.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Bob isn't married.
  • Enforced: Producers of a Period Piece focused on nobles want to include some Fanservice.
  • Lampshaded: "So Bob found the hottest chick in his Empire and married her? Isn't it kind of cliche?"
  • Invoked:
    • Bob searches through all of his empire to find the most beautiful woman and marry her.
    • Bob paid for his wife's facial and chest surgery, as he could easily afford it.
  • Exploited: A group of dissidents cite Bob marrying Alice as an example of the Emperor abusing his power.
  • Defied: Bob wants to marry an amazingly hot woman, but his advisors say no, they need Altar Diplomacy instead.
  • Discussed: "So who do you think the Emperor will marry?" "I bet on someone really hot."
  • Conversed: "Did you notice how all those supposedly-medieval kings always have some supermodel as their wife? Where do they find them in The Dung Ages?"
  • Implied: The protagonists never visit the Emperor, but they hear many rumors about Empress' beauty.
  • Played For Laughs: Bob comes to regret his choice when Alice proves to be Brainless Beauty and by the end of their honeymoon, he's rather exhausted with her.
  • Played For Drama: Alice's beauty causes her to have a host of romances in the court, causing an influx of illegitimate children, Bob losing the respect of fellow men and the court to devolve into a Decadent Court.
