Basic Trope: A currency is used everywhere in the game except one place.

  • Straight: In the video game Bob's Trope Tales, Queenies are the main currency. However, in Gameland, the player can only spend Gamelings.
  • Exaggerated: Different currencies are used in two of the nine story arcs, as well as the Mini Game Zone. By the endgame, the player can have well over 100 currencies in their wallet, and even more in their reserve inventory.
  • Downplayed: Gamelings are mentioned, but are not obtainable because Bob can play the mini-games for free.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted: Each plot arc has several local currencies, each useless outside its own village - except the sixth arc, where the same currency is used throughout the kingdom of Tropeland.
  • Subverted: While Gamelings are obtainable by the player, attractions in Gameland will also accept Queenies under the counter.
    • A nomadic merchant scoffs at the concept of government backed currency - and then proceeds to barter in metal weight for your coins.
  • Double Subverted: ...Until the game is beaten, after which only Gamelings are accepted.
  • Parodied: There is a ridiculous number of alternate currencies, all with silly names.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
  • Enforced: "We don't want it to be too easy to access the games. Let's give Gameland a special currency."
  • Lampshaded: "Sorry, we don't take Queenies. You'll need Gamelings if you want to play our games."
  • Invoked: Gameland starts issuing its own private "currency".
  • Exploited: One of the merchants in the game starts accepting Gamelings because he wants to play the games in Gameland.
  • Defied: Gameland adopts Queenies as its currency.
  • Discussed: "What? You thought we had our own currency here? We use Queenies like everyone else!"
  • Conversed: "Like in many video games, the Mini Game Zone's currency is different."
  • Deconstructed: The game becomes less popular because players dislike the presence of an exception to the game-wide currency.
  • Reconstructed: The game becomes more popular due to the added challenge of earning Gamelings.
  • Played For Laughs: Both the main currency and the exception are Weird Currencies.
