Basic Trope: Someone who used to have discriminatory attitudes, but doesn't anymore.
- Straight: Bob used to be racist, but he since changed his views after meeting some people of different races.
- Exaggerated: Bob used to hate everyone who wasn't white, straight, Christian/atheist, male, neurotypical, or anything else he wasn't, even going as far as to advocate for genocide against them. However, he has since become an All-Loving Hero.
- Downplayed: Bob wasn't necessarily racist, but did make a lot of offensive jokes and has since learned better.
- Justified: Bob was raised in a white supremacist household, but after meeting some black, Asian, and indigenous American people, he wanted to become a better person.
- Inverted: Bob used to be a very tolerant and accepting person, but is now racist.
- Subverted:
- Bob seems to have stopped his racist ways, but then he starts making offensive comments.
- It turns out Bob was never racist in the first place; he was falsely accused.
- Double Subverted:
- However, it turns out that he either didn't realize his comments were offensive or said something that was misinterpreted as offensive, and he apologizes for his actions.
- It turns out the accusations were Right for the Wrong Reasons, the evidence was false but he did used to be racist.
- Parodied: Bob was a comically over-the-top racist who wore Ku Klux Klan robes everywhere he went and had a portrait of Adolf Hitler on his mantle. He then completely changed overnight into an extremely sensitive anti-racist who Apologizes a Lot.
- Zig-Zagged: Bob repeatedly goes back and forth between being tolerant and bigoted.
- Averted:
- Bob was never racist.
- Bob stays racist throughout the series.
- Bob is a character in a series with Monochrome Casting, and whether he would be actively racist against people of different ancestry than his own is never raised.
- Enforced:
- To try to show the audience that people can change for the better.
- Audiences reacted badly to Bob's racist comments, so the producers of the show tried to make Bob a more tolerant person.
- It's time for a Very Special Episode about racism, but the producers don't want to make one of their iconic characters racist, so they make him a former racist instead.
- Lampshaded:Alice: This is a picture of you with neo-Nazis, isn't it?Bob: Yes. I used to be racist. Now, I realize the things I said and did were stupid and harmed people.
- Invoked: Alice is tired of Bob making offensive comments, so she introduces him to one of her black friends to show him that his prejudice is completely unjustified.
- Exploited: ???
- Defied: "No, I'm not gonna change my ways, you're just too sensitive!"
- Discussed: ???
