Go To

Basic Trope: Radiation killing people much faster than in real life.

  • Straight: Alice gets exposed to radiation, and dies within minutes.
  • Exaggerated: Alice is over 30 feet away from the source, and wearing a HAZMAT suit, and is still killed within minutes.
    • Alice dies within seconds.
  • Downplayed: Alice dies within about three days; technically possible in real life, but extremely rare.
    • Alice gets hit with a dose of radiation, and immediately develops radiation sickness, but does not die.
    • Alice was exposed to a nuclear reactor in full meltdown, and drops dead a few hours later.
  • Justified: Alice was hit with a large dose of radiation, so naturally it would start acting fast.
  • Inverted: Alice gets hit with a ridiculous dose of radiation, but shrugs it off.
  • Subverted: Alice looks like she's going to die, but doesn't.
  • Double Subverted: The next day, however...
  • Parodied: Alice goes out into the Sun; she dies within the second.
  • Zig-Zagged: The radiation sometimes kills people fast, sometimes not.
  • Averted: There is no radiaton.
  • Enforced: Hollywood Science
  • Lampshaded: "That girl died way too fast."
  • Discussed: "Fortunately for us, This Is Reality and we won't die within minutes."
  • Conversed: "In Hollywood, radiation always kills people faster than normal."
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Implied: We see people enter a building contaminated with radiation, but never see them leave.
