- The Darkterrors are the good guys, and it will somehow be a bad thing if the Happyfluffs succeed in giving people happy dreams.
- The Happyfluffs and Darkterrors have always gotten along with each other. The Happyfluffs know that nightmares are just as natural as happy dreams are.

- The Happyfluffs and the Darkterrors seem like they're about to fight... but then they hug it out. They're all dream creatures, after all.
- The Happyfluffs are a case of Light Is Not Good, as they use happy dreams to pacify people so that they won't interfere with their grander Evil Plan.
- The Darkterrors are a case of Dark Is Not Evil, as they use nightmares to keep otherwise-bad people in line like a Dark Shepherd.
- Double Subverted: But then they have a minor disagreement that slowly escalates into an all-out brawl.
- Parodied: The Happyfluffs and Darkterrors compete in a way that can't be taken as seriously as a fight, such as a sports match or a dance-off.
- Zig-Zagged: Sometimes the Happyfluffs and Darkterrors fight, but sometimes they work together.
- Averted: The Happyfluffs and Darkterrors simply exist in the same dream world without acknowledging each other.
- Enforced: It's a story for kids. Sweet dreams are such lovable things, and nightmares such terrifying ones, that it will be easy for kids to sympathize with the Happyfluffs and hate the Darkterrors.
