Basic Trope: A character has all the traits of the Confirmed Bachelor until a special someone does come along.
- Straight: Bob firmly decides to stay happily single for good. He meets Alice and finds himself starting a relationship and getting happily married.
- Exaggerated: The very moment Bob meets Alice, he falls head over heels in love and insists on marrying her right away.
- Downplayed: Bob isn't sure if he wants to marry until Alice comes along.
- Justified:
- Bob thinks women are hysterical and silly, and Alice is anything but.
- Early in his life Bob suffered a heartbreak and decided love wasn't for him. It took many years and Alice to fix it.
- Bob is fed a Love Potion.
- Although Bob isn't interested, he marries Alice for the tax benefits and nothing more.
- Bob is demiromantic, and hadn’t experienced romantic attraction until he met and developed an emotional connection with Alice.
- Inverted: Alice isn't sure about marrying Bob who really wants to marry her.
- Subverted: It's only a Marriage of Convenience or even a complete farce: Bob needs Alice for achieving some goal of his own and doesn't plan to live an actual married life.
- Bob has been in a relationship with Alice for many years. It's just that for some reason they've been hiding it.
- Double Subverted: (to the first point of Subverted) Until he really falls in love with her.
- Parodied: A dating site advertises itself as "Deconfirming Bachelors".
- Averted:
- Confirmed Bachelor.
- Romance isn't a focus in the work.
- Invoked: Bob's friend wants him to start a family and introduces him to Alice, who he feels is right for Bob.
- Played For Laughs: Bob parodies the way Sickeningly Sweethearts talk. Then, after meeting Alice, he talks just like that completely in earnest.
- Played For Drama: Bob is uncomfortable around women and he doesn't know how to approach Alice. Instead of romancing her, he alienates her. And even after they do get together, their relationship is difficult because Bob isn't used to sharing his personal space with anyone.
