Basic Trope: A Character is simply incapable of dying.

  • Straight: Alice, well, can't be killed.
  • Exaggerated: Not only can Alice not be killed, she also can't be banished, imprisoned, transformed, forced to leave this plane or in any way whatsoever permanently stopped. No matter what happens, she'll always be back eventually.
  • Downplayed: Alice can't die, but she also doesn't heal any faster then a normal human, so if she's done enough damage the difference is somewhat technical.
  • Justified:
    • Alice has made a deal with Death preventing it from ever claiming her.
    • Alice is a cosmic being who predates death, and it was never designed to take her.
    • Alice is just really, really tough.
  • Inverted: Alice is killed so permanently that no power can bring her back.
  • Subverted: Alice claims that no force can kill her. Turns out she didn't bank on heavy artillery, and she's quickly reduced to a red smear on the battlefield.
  • Double Subverted: And then, that red smear heals instantly and continues like nothing happened.
  • Parodied: Alice is shot, stabbed, decapitated, set on fire, shot again, hit down with a car, bombed, put through a meat mincer, fed to a tiger and hurled into a volcano. She then climbs out, completely unscathed and mildly annoyed.
  • Zig Zagged: Alice can't die- until they find the one weapon that can kill her! Except she can survive that! Except there are cosmic beings that can wipe her from existence! Except she can even survive being wiped from existence!
  • Averted: Alice, like many people, can be killed.
  • Enforced: Alice is meant to be Really 700 Years Old. To justify her not having been killed off over 700 years of adventures, the writers simply say she can't be killed at all.
  • Lampshaded: "Yeah, I'm not sure why I thought shooting her would work either"
  • Invoked: Alice makes sure when she becomes immortal that there's no loopholes or exceptions, and that she is completely unkillable.
  • Exploited: When Alice and Bob need to get through the needlessly dangerous corridor of spikes and crushing plates, Alice sighs and walks in.
  • Defied: Bob declares that nothing is truly unkillable, and manages to make a weapon able to even kill her.
  • Discussed: "So- nothing can kill you?" "No." "Not even..." "No. Whatever you're thinking of, not even that."
  • Conversed: "So, in trillions of years, she'll still be floating around space?" "Guess so." "Huh. That's kind of crappy"
  • Implied: Nothing has ever seemed to seriously harm Alice, and all attempts to stop her have focused on trapping or controlling her rather than killing her.
  • Deconstructed: Alice ends up buried alive- she can't die, but she can certainly be removed from the equation, so to speak. Over a long enough time, she inevitably will be.
  • Reconstruction: But on the other hand, over a long enough time she'll eventually be dug up too, and she has all eternity to get over any trauma. She is, after all, completely immortal.
