Basic Trope: A villain or force of evil is introduced or foreshadowed by way of tons of insects.
- Straight: General Drake, upon meeting Alice, presents himself by sending cicadas flying in swarms.
- Exaggerated : Every insect in the world has to fly past Drake during his entrance, even the decidedly not scary ones.
- Downplayed: Five measly gnats pester Alice before General Drake shows up, and they don't have anything to do with him.
- Justified : Without the aura flowing from the insects' exoskeletons, Drake will slowly disintegrate into dust.
- Inverted : General Drake shows up before introducing Alice to his new masters, the Praying Mantigons.
- Parodied: General Drake is indeed heralded by insects — except the insects in question are ladybugs and butterflies, who proceed to take a collective dump on his head before soaring away.
- Zig Zagged: At first, General Drake encounters Alice without the presence of any arthropods. Later, a random swarm of gnats whisks by as the General encounters her a second time.
- Averted: General Drake's grand introduction is entirely bug-free.
- Discussed: "I still can't get over the fact that General Drake didn't get stung by those random, scary-looking hornets the other day. Any entomologist could tell you they'd be pinched helpless if not for their bulky suits."
- Conversed: "Why did the bad guy in that movie have all those bugs in front of him when they didn’t even do anything? It's filler drama, that's what is."
