Basic Trope: Someone being chased ducks into an alley to lose their chasers.
- Straight: Damien is being chased by the police for robbery. He runs into an alleyway, and the police keep running forward, allowing Damien to evade them.
- Exaggerated: Damien runs into three alleys in succession, confusing the police to the point they lose all sense of direction.
- Downplayed: Damien does use the alley to hide, but only to cross over into a different street.
- Justified:
- The alley does blend in well with the setting, so Damien is safer there than being out in the open.
- The alley is where Damien's secret hideout is, and he's running there to hide.
- There's construction on the street ahead, so Damien has to run into the alley or he'll be stopped in his tracks.
- Inverted: Damien is being chased, and stays clear on the streets, never going into alleys or side routes.
- Subverted: Damien runs into the alley, realizes the police might still see him, then continues running.
- Double Subverted: He runs to an alley on the other side of the street and hides there.
- Parodied: A large neon sign saying "Inconspicuous Alley This Way" is right next to the alley.
- Zig-Zagged: Sometimes Damien goes into the alley to hide, and other times he doesn't.
- Averted: Damien does not enter an alley to throw the police off track.
- Enforced: The set design was re-used from another movie, and the set is unfinished past the alley. The writers needed Damien to go in there instead of keep running.
- Lampshaded: Damien gives an Aside Glance and says "I should be safe in that alley!"
- Invoked: Damien's partner tells him they should go into the alley to hide.
- Exploited: The police are experienced and know that criminals tend to hide in alleys, so they check there, first.
- Defied: "I need a place to hide! The alley! No, too predictable!"
- Discussed: "You think he just went into an alley to hide?"
- Conversed: "Isn't it convenient that whenever someone's being chased on a show, there's always an alley nearby for them to hide in?"
