- Old Man Bob has a Mortality Phobia, and he considers finally being sent to the retirement home a sign that his life is about to end. In his position, who wouldn't consider that an "awful, dull, depressing place"?
- Inverted: The retirement home is an incredibly fun place populated by Cool Old Guys and Cool Old Ladies who spend their days telling exciting stories of their youth to enraptured visitors and getting involved in December–December Romance.
- Subverted: Bob dreads getting sent to a retirement home, but the tour shows that it's a pretty nice place.
- Double Subverted: But once he moves there, it turns out the tour lied to him and it's really awful.
- Parodied: The inhabitants of the retirement home are outright tormented - by the wrong intensity of the lights, by the annoying grandchildren of the neighbors, by the ugly visitor dog, by their Trademark Favorite Food being never available...
