Basic Trope: A normally herbivorous animal starts eating meat.

  • Straight: Bob the Bunny starts eating meat.
  • Exaggerated: All of the herbivorous animals start eating meat.
  • Downplayed:
    • A normally omnivorous animal switches to a carnivorous diet.
    • Bob only eats meat on occasion.
  • Justified:
    • Bob was curious to know what meat tasted like.
    • Bob can digest meat properly (for example, he's a Funny Animal).
    • Bob was very hungry and desperate.
    • Bob had to do something with the body...
    • Truth in Television: A herbivorous animal is about as vegetarian as its options.
    • It's a Scavenger World, and no scavengers are considered scum. Even herbivores scavenge carrion.
    • Bob was adopted by carnivores, so he continues to eat meat because that's what he has been doing all his life.
  • Inverted: Alice the Alligator switches to eating plants.
  • Subverted: Bob tries meat, but decides he doesn't like it.
  • Double Subverted: ...In fact, he loves it.
  • Parodied: A person who is a vegetarian tries meat for the first time, and the situation is treated as this.
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Animals eat their ordinary diets.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: "Don't rabbits usually eat plants?"
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Bob decides to remain a vegetarian.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: Fradisks are carnivorous by nature, so aren't this trope themselves, but their binomial nomenclature, Sciurus Fradiscus, indicates that it must have happened in a predecessor species.
  • Deconstructed: Bob's digestive system isn't set up for meat, and he has difficulties with eating it.
  • Reconstructed:
    • Bob is genetically modified to become a carnivore.
    • Bob decides to continue eating plants on occasion, at least often enough to support his digestive system.
