• The scene where Silas Lodge kills two campers with fire at the end of season one.
• Abbie's descent into Chapel Hill, starting with the echoing voice of their sister as they descend down the hole, the jump scare when Silas's voice comes from nowhere to read one of his 'sermons', and Abbie's frantic climb back up to the observatory as the chapel begins collapsing in on itself. The sermon itself is particularly gruesome, as it tells the story of a cat who slowly gets crushed to death.
• Abbie's return to the diner in season three. The dark and the rot and mold is bad enough, but then the waitress and the proprietor turn up, and they're not quite human.
