You'd probably expect him to finally throw away all his supposed ideals and beg for his life, exposing himself for the pathetic hypocrite he's supposed to be... and he doesn't! He cheerfully urges them to finish him off! In a world full of rich scumbags, career criminals, sociopaths, and mercenaries, it's truly chilling to see someone of immense prestige who doesn't shy away when the shoe is on the other foot.
The realization that the Purge has been in effect for at least 23 years given that Election Year is set in 2040 and the first Purge occurred in 2017. So 23 years of one night killing and terrorizing scores of people in unthinkable ways...and it was all for what? Not one goddamn thing.
The fact that so many people supported the Purge that when the anti-Purge Roan gets elected president, the supporters start rioting.
