- Oh sweet, merciful Buddha, The Haunted School. Even ignoring the squicktacular visuals (for example, the delightful cover image for the book), the book in general is perhaps one of the scariest books in the original series ever, especially because of the infamous Downer Ending below.
- The cover for the book deserves a mention. At first, it looks like a normal open locker with a bunch of pages falling out of it, with the inside pitch black. But if you look closer there are - we kid you not - eyes staring at you.
- The sequence where the protagonist and his friend, who are in the black and white world that the missing kids from 1947 are trapped in, go outside of the school and are captured by savage kids who perform strange rituals from the color world gray, involving a vat of boiling oil.
- The ending, quite possibly the most horrifying in the entire original run. The photographer responsible for the horror of Bellwood is back. And he's about to take another class picture, with Tommy and Ben powerless to stop him.
