Given the nature of Warhammer 40k where Humanity has to face threats ranging from eldritch abominations to ultra-violent aliens, Messages for Dad has its fair share of Nightmare Fuel in addition to what is present in canon.

- The Silent Year. When the Golden Throne finally broke down completely in the future timeline and the Emperor died, the entirety of the Solar System and Solar Segmentum was obliterated and imploded into a new warpstorm named the Eye of Despair, and the destruction of the Astronomicon resulted in the entire Imperium essentially suffering a second Age of Strife with entire lines of communication being cut off completely and leaving countless billions without reinforcements and at the mercy of warp storms, daemonic incursions, Orks, and other horrors for an entire year.
- By the time of Aegidius birth and the relightning of the Astronomicon, the realm of Ultramar, Fenris, and Nocturne are, as far as everyone knows, All that remains of Mankind and its civilization in the galaxy.
- And they are barely hanging on.
- Life on Nuceria as a slave to the High-Riders. Not only are the slave masters extremely cruel and aided by long-forgotten technology to suppress the slaves but the slaves themselves are so desperate that they will betray each other for a few moments of safety and comforts.
