Affectionate Parody or no, nothing's guaranteed to set off arachnophobes and create new ones like a film about a town being overrun by a mutated Giant Spider horde.
- The spiders' rampage across town has several moments:
- Their attack on the diner. One spider attempts to jump through the window, only to smack into the glass and audibly slide down while the diners stare at it... and then another one manages to get through and mauls a woman, starting the panic proper. A group of trapdoor spiders also pick off and drag several fleeing patrons into the sewers as they try to escape to their cars.
- The attack on the mall is similarly jarring.
- The mutated spiders treat the humans they capture like they would any other prey: sink their fangs into them and liquefy their insides in an extremely slow and painful manner, as best exemplified by the scene featuring Consuela the female orb weaver.
- Leon's death is one of the few moments in the film that's played entirely for horror. While hosing down a blast hole, the water suddenly stops flowing, prompting him to try and suck out whatever's clogging the hose - and then we see ''something'' going through the hose and coming closer to him...
- The pet dog of Chris’s aunt is killed out of nowhere and becomes a meal for spiders, and they nearly take the aunt next.
- Ashley getting attacked by a spider as it climbs into her bedroom window and charges, cocooning her - Chris tries to save her with a wooden chair, but gets webbed up as well. If not for Ashley's mother shooting the spider dead, they would have been goners.
