* Batman had a dream of the world ending, and using that dream as the inspiration to put a team together to stop that future from coming. This was a plot point in Creator/GrantMorrison's ''[[ComicBook/GrantMorrisonsBatman Batman]]'' run.

* [[spoiler:After Steppenwolf gets beamed back to Apokolips]], Cyborg says his signature ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans'' catchphrase, "Booyah".

* When pressed about his skills, Barry Allen starts mentioning various technical skills and that he knows sign language, specifically gorilla sign language. One of the Flash's most famous enemies is ComicBook/GorillaGrodd, an intelligent, telepathic gorilla. He also lies about practicing figure-skating, alluding to his ice-themed foe Captain Cold and Cold's skating-themed sister the Golden Glider.

* Aquaman's confession when he's accidentally wrapped in the Lasso of Truth is similar to Steve Trevor in the 2009 ''WesternAnimation/{{Wonder Woman|2009}}'' animated film.

* The prison guard working for Batman alerts him to Barry's presence by with a phone symbol that turns [[Series/{{Batman}} red]] when pressed.

** It also shows that she is almost as fast as Flash or Superman.

* Superman returns to the battlefield saying "Well I believe in truth... I'm also a huge fan of justice." It's also a subtle nod to how "the American way" is being phased out due to political correctness, the same way that this movie and that cartoon weren't called "Justice League of America" instead.

** Speaking of, Creator/DannyElfman makes liberal use of Music/JohnWilliams' iconic Superman theme in this film's soundtrack, as well as his own ''Batman'' theme song from Creator/TimBurton's [[Film/{{Batman}} 1989 film]].

** Also an allusion to Steppenwolf from ''ComicBook/Earth2'' comics, who was the lover(!) of this alternate universe's Wonder Woman [[spoiler:resulting in this version of Diana having a daughter, Fury]].

* Steppenwolf and his Parademons killed a large number of Amazons, and he later tried to single-handedly kill Diana. In the ''ComicBook/Earth2'' universe again, Steppenwolf and his army killed ''all'' of the Amazons, and he himself personally killed Diana. [[spoiler:''Their'' daughter, Fury, became the last Amazon.]]

** Also an allusion to Steppenwolf from ''ComicBook/Earth2'' comics, who became the lover(!) of this alternate universe's Wonder Woman (resulting in this version of Diana [[spoiler:having a daughter, Fury]]), before [[spoiler:he eventually killed her]].

* As Creator/ZackSnyder [[WordOfGod confirms]], a shot of The Flash tripping is directly ripped from a panel from ''ComicBook/TheDarkKnightReturns'' where Superman is struck by lightning.

* In the final stinger, [[spoiler:Luthor's escape being discovered only after finding an imposter in his cell]] is taken from ''ComicBook/TheKillingJoke''. The reference is even [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] by showing the imposter in close-up wearing a [[ComicBook/TheJoker big, teethy grin]].
