- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society almost entirely recreates scene for scene the Human-Error Processor manga. The tank/Armor Suit battles are perhaps the most obvious.
- Elements of its plot, specifically the raid on a facility where children are being brainwashed, are taken from the first issue of the original manga.
- Shikibu, a prefectural Public Security officer shows up from GITS 1.5: Human Error Processor as a Public Security officer who talks to Togusa in Niihama International Airport alongside Borma, Pazu and Azuma. He's not snotty unlike in the manga.
- Also the sniper duel between Saito and Raj Puhto, both of them Class A snipers, is based on 1.5 where Saito engages an East Asian mercenary named Yuen Shohoi in a golf course with Batou. Like in the movie, both men are wounded in the course of the duel.
- In Solid State Society, the alleged puppeteer meets a odd-looking representative of the Foreign Ministry in a buxom blonde gynoid body. In the original manga and film, the infamous Puppet-master is interrogated by the same Foreign Minister employee while occupying a naked blonde gynoid body (that's had everything below the waist removed after being hit by traffic).
- The Tachikoma programs the Major reconstructed share names with Motoko Aramaki's support AIs from GITS 2: Man-Machine Interface.
