The Wiggles are an Australian children's band, founded in 1991 but gained international popularity during the 2000s. Greg Page, Anthony Field and Murray Cook met as early childhood education students at Macquarie University in the 80s, while Field was a member of 80s rock band ''The Cockroaches'' alongside Jeff Fatt; the three classmates undertook a university project of their own design intended to create music aimed at children with educational value, and Fatt was brought in as a pianist. A few years and a deal with Creator/TheABC later, and The Wiggles were born.

Over the years they have produced forty-eight albums, several television series and two films, one live action and one animated. The ABC has traditionally broadcast all their shows and been in charge of distributing all their albums and films in Australia. In the United States, the program initially aired on [[Creator/{{Freeform}} Fox Family]], then moved to [[Creator/DisneyChannel Playhouse Disney]], but was supplanted by the ''Imagination Movers''. The Wiggles now have an expanded role on Creator/UniversalKids.

It says something about the Wiggles' importance within Australia that when the original yellow Wiggle, Greg Page, left the group, it made national headlines for weeks. The majority of Australians will know at least three of their songs and sing them unashamedly, an almost unique thing in the world when it comes to children's music. They'll also give you the trademark Wiggle finger pointing gesture unashamedly.

In December of 2012, three original members -- Greg, Murray and Jeff -- retired from the group (though they continue to be involved in the franchise's development), and were replaced by three younger band members, one of them [[DistaffCounterpart female]]. A television series with the new lineup, ''Ready, Steady, Wiggle!'', premiered in August of 2013, and a second new lineup series, ''Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle!'', premiered in October 2017.

!!'''Tropes:'''

* AddedAlliterativeAppeal: Dorothy The Dinosaur.
* BackForTheFinale: In January 2012, Greg's return to the group was announced with much fanfare, only for him, Murray, and Jeff to announce their retirement effective at the end of the year.
* BigEater: Anthony.
* BigFriendlyDog: Wags, of course.
* CarnivoreConfusion: Dorothy's a dinosaur, obviously a tyrannosaurus rex sort complete with sharp teeth, but it's OK [[BizarreTasteInFood because she eats...]] [[TrademarkFavoriteFood roses]].
** While not dealing with eating but similar still, Captain Feathersword is a ''friendly'' pirate.
* ClothingReflectsPersonality: Yellow = the star; red = the musician; blue = the hungry one; purple = the sleepyhead.
* ColorCodedCharacters: In the above image, that's Emma in the yellow skivvy, Simon in the red, Lachy in purple, and Anthony in blue. Greg wore the yellow skivvy until 2006, when he turned his skivvy over to Sam (and then took it back in 2012, only to give it to Emma at the end of the year). Murray wore red, and Jeff in purple, until Simon and Lachy (respectively) came in during 2013.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: The ending of "Wake Up Jeff/Lachy"
-->Would you keep that noise down? I'm trying to sleep!
* CoolCar: The Big Red Car
* TheCoverChangesTheMeaning: They've done a few covers of songs aimed at older audiences, both written by the band themselves pre-Wiggles and by other artists.
** One that stands out is ''Monkey Man'', originally done by The Maytalls. The original version ''appears'' to be about a man telling someone (a girlfriend?) that he's heard rumors of her "hugging up the big monkey man" (implying cheating on the singer) although he can't confirm it. The Wiggles version, featuring Music/KylieMinogue, is about... an actual Monkey Man.
* DaysOfTheWeekSong: Let's Eat had a series of songs about each day of the week, associated with an alliterated food. Example: [[AlliterativeTitle Tuesday is Taco Day]]
** The only time they break the alliteration pattern is in "[[OddNameOut Thursday is Bratwurst Day]]".
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: The group originally had five members (including Philip Wilcher) and wore patterned shirts that bore no resemblance to their trademark coloured skivvies. A couple of years later, Anthony donned a green shirt instead of his now-famous blue skivvy.
* EverythingsBetterWithDinosaurs: Dorothy the Dinosaur, evidently a 'Rosasaurus'.
* EverythingsSquishierWithCephalopods: Henry the Octopus, who [[Music/TheBeatles likes to be under the sea, in an octopus's garden, in the shade]].
** [[DontExplainTheJoke They've actually done a cover of that song.]]
* ExcitedKidsShowHost: Everyone, of course.
* ExcitedShowTitle: Many of The Wiggles' song and album titles are an example of this, noteably "Wake Up Jeff!" and "Hoop-Dee-Doo! It's a Wiggly Party!".
* ForgottenThemeTuneLyrics: Once you hear them sing "Turkey In The Straw", you'll recognize the tune that's always been instrumental in older cartoons such as ''WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes''.
* FunnyOctopus: Henry the Octopus, a supporting cast member. Known for breakdancing with all his legs.
* GirlishPigtails: Emma's usual hairstyle. Sometimes she switches to a PrimAndProperBun.
* HairDecorations: Emma wears a yellow and black hairbow. She has thousands of them.
* HeavySleeper: '''WAKE UP JEFF/LACHY!'''
* IAmTheBand: Anthony Field ''was'' this until 2013 (as the only original member), when Emma Watkins became the band's [[InUniverse/EnsembleDarkhorse Ensemble Darkhorse]].
* InterspeciesRomance: Dorothy and Wags. They even had a wedding... '''''three times!'''''
* KentBrockmanNews: ''Network Wiggles'', their third TV series, included a news segment hosted by Greg, with Dorothy acting as a field reporter, and weather by Captain Feathersword (with his "Weathersword").
* TheKiddieRide: One carousel, one of the Big Red Car, and one rare Dorothy the Dinosaur swing ride.
* LongRunners: Got their start in 1991, and are still well and truly around.
** LongRunnerLineUp: ''And'' they kept the same lineup from 1992 to 2006, making them a Type 4.
* MemeticHandGesture: You'd be hard-pressed to find an Australian child of the nineties or later who ''doesn't'' recognise their signature pointing-wiggling.
* MoodWhiplash: Happens to Dorothy in the Series 2 episode "Directions"; she is at Happy and Sad Street, going past either the happy or sad sign will cause her mood to switch to that respective one.
* TheMovie: A theatrically-released movie, produced in 1997, pretty much cemented them as the world's best-loved children's performers.
* NoAntagonist: Played straight in every series.
* [[ThePiratesWhoDontDoAnything The Pirate Who Doesn't Do Anything]]: Captain Feathersword.
* {{Pun}}: A lot of the questions in 'Ready, Steady, Wiggle' do puns on the topic of the episodes. Example, after Simon turns into a duck when he drank Lachy's [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin "Turn You Into A Duck Drink"]].
--> Will Simon ''duck'' out for another cup?
--> Will the Wiggles send Lachy the ''bill''?
--> You just can't ''beak'' [[BreakingTheFourthWall this episode.]]
* RedShirt: Averted with Greg Page.
** And, [[{{Pun}} well]], Murray Cook.
* RevolvingDoorBand: [[http://www.heraldsun.com.au/ipad/the-wiggles-reveal-new-line-up-and-first-female-wiggle-after-jeff-fatt-murray-cook-and-greg-page-announce-retirement/story-fn6bfkm6-1226359223392 This]], especially occuring so soon after [[http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/celebrity/yellow-wiggle-greg-page-to-return-to-the-band-as-sam-moran-steps-aside/story-e6frfmqi-1226247884526 this]].
* RunningGag: "Oh no!" "Oh what!?" "Oh no!" "Oh what?!" [[RuleOfThree "Oh no!" "Oh what?!"]]
** "Huh?" "Huh?" "Huh?" "Huh?"
** "Well, blow me down." (Captain Feathersword gets blown down and he screams, then gets back up again.) "I gotta stop saying that." "You gotta stop saying what?" "I gotta stop saying 'Blow me down'. Oh no!" (Cue being blown down and getting up again.)
** With the new group of Wiggles, there are often jokes about Anthony being 'old'. Greg gets this treatment as well during the 2017 ''Go Santa Go'' video.
** In TV Series 4 & 5, the Wiggles often talk about Bill O' Really... I mean O'Reilly.
* SelfDeprecation: In interviews, Jeff has said that his role as the one who always falls asleep and needs to be woken up derives from his lack of background in early childhood education, and that it's a way to get him involved in the shows without him actually needing to do anything.
* SelfTitledAlbum: The Wiggles' debut album.
* SesameStreetCred: Many prominent entertainment industry figures have guest starred in specials or on the TV show, including Slim Dusty, Troy Cassar-Daley, Music/KylieMinogue, [[Music/CreedenceClearwaterRevival John Fogerty]], Christine Anu, [[Series/CrocodileHunter Steve Irwin]], Rolf Harris, Leo Sayer and many more.
* ShowWithinAShow: Series 3 has the Wiggles producing a show at their own TV studio, Network Wiggles.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Dorothy the Dinosaur could have been considered this prior to Emma's arrival. As for Emma's character, the group arguably [[DownplayedTrope downplays this trope]] -- while Emma is the only official woman to be a Wiggle, she lacks the overt tokenism often associated with the trope. There have also been other recurring women in the various series, including Kylie Minogue as an honorary "Pink Wiggle", so Emma's arrival only really fits this trope in description.
* {{Spinoff}}: ''Dorothy the Dinosaur'' and ''Baby Antonio's Circus''. There were also attempts to form foreign-language counterparts overseas (see WestCoastTeam).
** There's also the Wiggles-produced show ''The Kingdom of Paramithi'', which features many of their dancers and technically counts as a spinoff.
** Emma got her own show in 2015, with Lachy getting his own show a year later. The shows were called [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin "Emma!" and "Lachy!"]]
* StageMagician: Greg's shtick during TheNineties was performing magic tricks, wearing the obligatory magician's hat and cape. However, [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption these magic tricks had an alarming tendency to go wrong]], [[NiceJobBreakingItHero especially whenever Anthony was involved]].
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: From 2006 to 2012, the original Yellow Wiggle, Greg Page, was replaced with his understudy, Sam Moran, due to Page's [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthostatic_intolerance illness]].
* VoicesAreMental: Subverted in the Series 2 episode "The Body"; Captain Feathersword and Wags happen upon "Each Other's Voices Street", which causes them to switch voices.
* TheVoiceless: Wags the Dog.
** At least until [[SuddenlyVoiced the show]] JumpedTheShark.
*** But then again, as of 2013's "Go Santa Go", Wags hasn't spoken at all.
** Officer Beaples doesn't speak; she only blows her whistle.
* WestCoastTeam: Besides the [[FollowTheLeader imitators]], there were attempts to form overseas counterparts of the wildly popular group in Latin America and Asia. They didn't work, in part because much of the Wiggles' appeal outside the Anglosphere was as a tool for ''learning English''.
** There's been a recent announcement that they're doing [[http://kidscreen.com/2018/02/09/latam-focused-panita-productions-opens-shop-with-los-wiggles/ another]] attempt at a Latin American Wiggles team.
