* JPop: They release a lot of Japanese versions for their songs, which is common practice for KPop groups. Not to the extent as, say, Music/{{Twice}} does, however; {{Justified|Trope}} as their connection to Japan isn't quite as strong as a group like Twice's. The latter has three Japanese members while Red Velvet has all-Korean members.

* LoveMakesYouDumb: "Dumb Dumb" is about details a narrator who wants to be normal, but when they're around the person they love everything just freezes up. In the words of the song itself, "I should just act like I do normally / But whenever I see you, I act so stupid".

** "Rebirth", originally sung by Yoon Jung Shin, was covered by the group when they took part in the "Snowball Project", a collaboration between SM and Mystic Entertainment. Mystic's artists covered [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPONcsFfUzw "Dumb Dumb"]].
** They performed "Stickwitu" by Music/PussycatDolls at K-Con 2015.

** In general their discography is packed with songs that have in some way a correlation with food. "Sunny Side Up" is a reference to a way to cook eggs, "In & Out" is a nod to the fast food chain, "Cookie Jar" and "Milkshake" speak for themselves. You get the idea.
* GenreRoulette: One of their greatest strengths. Their ability to shift between bright, energetic Pop songs and a more calm, R&B or Jazz influenced style is what makes them emerge in the industry. The group's name conveys this.

* LoveMakesYouDumb: "Dumb Dumb" in a nutshell.

* LyricalShoehorn: The chorus for "Happiness" is nothing but "la la la"s, aside from one or two words after it.
* TheMasochismTango: The lyrics to "Psycho" paint such a picture. This rollercoaster of a relationship is summed up by this line: "We're in a beautiful and sad relationship."

* SelfEmpowermentAnthem: "Cool World" and "You Better Know".

* TitleTrack: "Ice Cream Cake", "Russian Roulette" and "Rookie" for their respective mini albums.

* SurprisinglyGoodEnglish: While not a group that actively promotes in Western-speaking countries, Wendy speaks English fluently due to growing up in Canada. Yeri, too, is fluent. Joy's English is improving constantly to the point of fluency, and Seulgi can speak it as well, though not as fluently as the others. Irene is pretty much the one who speaks it the least in the group, though she understands it well.

* BareYourMidriff: Some of their outfits reveal their midriffs. For example, Joy's outfit in "Bad Boy" reveals a lot of skin.
