Lyrica Live
is a two-person team who specialize in making covers of
Touhou Project songs - more specifically, covers
With Lyrics in English, offering their own take on the many colorful characters of Gensokyo through songs sung via those characters' points of view.
Lyrica Live's songs provide examples of:
- Arc Words: Given the
Fanon/borderline-canon that Maribel Hearn is either linked to, or is, Yukari Yakumo, Lyrica Live seems to make a point of incorporating references to "boundaries" and "gaps" whenever Maribel is singing. - Badass Boast: Given that most of the songs covered are boss fight themes, it's natural that quite a few of those bosses get some good lines in:
- "Strawberry Crisis!!" sees Yumemi, in the middle of a list of things that are "artificial" in her world, declare that:
"Limits that you bother to place... are ARTIFICIAL!"
- "Reverse Ideology" is Seija's theme song, so Lyrica Live's version has the amanojaku hamming it up as she describes how she'll overturn the order of Gensokyo:
"The beggars will rise with the governing voice, and the strongest will drop to their knees!"
- "A Tiny, Tiny, Clever Commander" gives Nazrin an excellent summation of what it means to be a Pint-Sized Powerhouse:
"Size doesn't mean nothin' when it comes to strength of a commander,
When a bold tiger heart beats in the hide of a mouse.
Greater is thought grander, but just try to withstand her -
- Foe Romance Subtext: It's Touhou fandom, so there's bound to be this in the Kaguya/Mokou duets, such as "Eastern Youkai Beauty."
- Food Porn: "Satellite Cafe Terrace" has Maribel and Renko describing the fantastical space-themed food and drinks on offer at the titular (imaginary) cafe.
- Haiku: Befitting a samurai, Youmu's theme (specifically, "Mystic Oriental Dream ~ Ancient Temple") opens with one.
- Heel–Face Turn: Lyrica's cover of "September Pumpkin" is all about how Seiran and Ringo decide to pull theirs.
- Hurricane of Puns: "Dullahan Under the Willows," being sung by Sekibanki, works in as many "head" puns as possible.
- Image Song: Songs sung about Touhou characters, from those characters' POV.
- Meaningful Name: The channel is named after Lyrica Prismriver, a Touhou character who's known for being in a band. Fittingly, the very first song they covered was in fact Lyrica's theme from Phantasmagoria of Flower View, "Ghostly Band ~ Phantom Ensemble." (Although they turn it into a "We Are" Song for all three of the Prismriver Sisters.)
- Sanity Slippage Song: Lyrica Live works "Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom ~ Nuclear Fusion" into one, showcasing Utsuho as she gets Drunk on the Dark Side.
- Sdrawkcab Speech: Several lines in "Reverse Ideology" start playing backwards halfway through. Perhaps Seija flipped them?
- Theseus' Ship Paradox: Nue makes reference to it in "Heian Alien."
- Villain Song: Most of the franchise's more noteworthy miscreants get their due at least once - Utsuho, Medicine, Tenshi, Okina, the Yorigamis, Flandre, Yumemi and, yes, even Mima, among others.
