Fat Joe, born Joseph Cartagena, is an Afro-Latino rapper. Of Puerto Rican and Cuban ancestry and raised in the Bronx, he has released 15 solo and collaboration albums since 1993 with 11 top 40 hits.

Tropes Fat Joe utilized in his works:

  • Arch-Enemy: A very intense one between his Terror Squad and 50 Cent's G-Unit, although this beef has since been squashed.
  • Artifact Name: He's really not that fat anymore.
  • Career Resurrection: After a stint in jail for tax evasion, he had a big comeback hit with "All the Way Up."
  • Catchphrase: "Yesterday's price is not today's price!"
  • Gangsta Rap: Among the first generation of gangsta rappers after G-funk blew up, he's been doing this longer than you think.
  • One-Hit Wonder: Technically, Billboard considers "Lean Back," credited to his group Terror Squad, the biggest one-hit wonder of the 2000s.
