This album provides examples of:

  • Anaphora: On the chorus of "Inside Out":
I could turn you inside out, you know
I could turn you inside out, oh, don't you know?
I could turn you inside out, you know
I could turn you inside out, but I don't know
  • Bedroom Pop
  • Break Up Song: "Allison" is about moving on after a past heartbreak.
    I'm waiting at the subway
    Waiting for the next train
'Cause you're not on the next train
    You're waiting for your own
  • Despair Event Horizon: On "Allison":
You just broke this child's heart
'Cause he won't ever see those dreams
  • Driven to Suicide:
    • On "Death by Chocolate, precisely the bridge:
I wanna kill myself, I wanna go to hell
I wanna kill myself 'cause I'm gonna go to hell
    • "Waiting for Cars" implies that:
Saw you on the street one summer evening
You were empty as could be
You were lying in the road
Just waiting for the cars to set you free
  • Epiphora: On the chorus of "Inside Out":
I could turn you inside out, you know
I could turn you inside out, oh, don't you know?
I could turn you inside out, you know
  • Face on the Cover: Allison lying down with a CASIO SK-1 keyboard and a guitar.
  • I Just Want to Be You: On "Death by Chocolate":
I wish that I was cool
    Like you
  • Obsession Song: "3 AM at a Party":
I go to all your shows to watch you play
And afterwards I hang out, only if you stay
  • One-Woman Song: "Allison" (Soccer Mommy's civil last name).
  • One-Word Title: "Allison" and "Try".
  • Rearrange the Song: Songs on this album were previously released on Bandcamp on her first EPs.
  • Shout-Out:
    • "Death by Chocolate" refers to a marketing term which designates desserts which are primarily made of chocolate.
    • "Benadryl Dreams" refers to a medication brand which treats allergies and insomnia.
  • Silly Love Songs: "Try" talks about having a crush on a stranger and imagining how life could be with them.
I like to pretend I know your name
And whether you like cats and dogs or if the
Movies that we watch are all the same
  • Singer Name Drop: On the song "Allison" (which is Soccer Mommy's civil last name).
