If you suddenly got supernatural powers one day, how would your life change?
Psych House (さいくるびより) is a manga series written and illustrated by Omusuke Kobayashi and published in Shonen Jump, with the first chapter coming out on May 13, 2024.Psych House—a special home set up for those with supernatural powers. One day, Nemuru, a boy with a Psych that allows him to change size, invites Kotone, a girl with a teleportation Psych, to live at Psych House. The mysterious but normal days of those with psychic powers now begins!
This manga contains examples of:
- Boy Meets Girl: The first chapter kicks off with Kotone meeting Nemuru before he catches her shoplifting and the two of them get wrapped up in a huge (literally) misunderstanding.
- Caretaker Reversal: Kotone's mother is hospitalized with a serious illness, forcing Kotone to be the breadwinner and pay for her mother's healthcare and her own education. However, she doesn't have enough money to buy food, and so is forced to resort to shoplifting.
- Five-Finger Discount: Kotone had been stealing from the convince store with her Psych to feed herself ever since her mother fell in a coma six months prior to the series to reserve the money for the hospital bill and school.
- Late for School: The first chapter has the New Transfer Student Nemuru being late for school. He sneaks in the middle of class but Kotone noticed the bucket moving from the rear door as well as the teacher catching his sudden appearance and didn't buy his excuse of having always been there due to logically taking attendance.
- Sizeshifter: Nemuru has the power to change his size, becoming giant or tiny however he sees fit.
- Weaponized Teleportation: An accidental example that's played for laughs. When Nemuru is chasing Kotone, she accidentally teleports a car above Nemuru and nearly kills him, but Nemuru manages to turn giant and catch it.
