The Everyday Life of The Triple-Faced Man, that no one yet knows!

"Forget three…I could act out a hundred different faces…"
Rei Furuya/Tōru Amuro/Bourbon/Zero

Detective Conan: Zero’s Tea Time - Zero no Tea Time (ゼロの日常 Zero no Nichijō) is a spinoff manga of Detective Conan. It is written and drawn by Takahiro Arai, under the supervision of Gōshō Aoyama. It is being serialized in Shogakukan's Shonen Sunday S starting May 2018, with the first volume released on August 8, 2018. On October 4, 2021, as a part of Detective Conan Volume 100 project, an anime adaptation of Zero's Tea Time has been announced with animation by TMS Entertainment. On November 9, 2021, Netflix announced that they will distribute the anime worldwide. Netflix Japan started streaming the anime on April 5, 2022, with worldwide release on July 29, 2022.

This spinoff stars Rei Furuya also known as Tōru Amuro and Bourbon and depicts his daily life. Each chapter features one of his “three faces”, the private detective and Café Poirot waiter, the Black Organization operative and the Public Security Bureau (PSB) officer.

Zero’s Tea Time provides examples of:

  • The Ace: Rei Furuya is able to balance essentially three different lives, keep them from colliding and mostly maintain his mental and physical health.
  • A Day in the Limelight: In Chapter 6- Be Sure Not To Bite Your Tongue, Eri Kisaki’s secretary Midori Kuriyama plays an important role. In general, she seems to have become a recurring character in this series.
  • Badass Boast: As seen as the page quote, Furuya declares that he could lead 100 different lives.
  • Continuity Nod: Amuro's apartment building is named Maison Mokuba, implying it may be the rebuilt Mokubasho apartment building burnt down during the case in Chapters 622-624 in the main series.
  • Cool Car: Furuya’s signature White 1991 Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type-A is his main mode of transportation. Chapter 8, aptly titled I’ll Clean You Right Up, he hand washes his car.
  • Older Sidekick: Only by one year, but Furuya is 29 and his PSB subordinate Yuuya Kazami is 30. The Splash Panel of chapter 11 makes it very explicit.
Narration: Despite being older, he’s a subordinate. Despite being younger, he’s the boss.
  • Shout-Out: After adopting an adorable dog Amuro christens it “Haro”. Said name is inspired by the music it likes In-Universe, but obviously to the audience, it is a reference to the cute Robot Buddy Amuro’s inspiration and namesake Amuro Ray created.
  • Slice of Life: Barring a brief Fight Scene in Ch 3, this is a low-key and relaxed story about Zero during his down time.
  • Spin-Off: This manga is a spin-off of Detective Conan and stars Zero, one of its breakout characters.
  • Supreme Chef: Amuro cooks for himself and does a damn good job at it, notably cooking a gorgeous Japanese Flambé in Ch 2.
  • Triple Shifter: As the narration succinctly puts it:
Narration: Amuro Tōru: A man with three faces-Furuya Rei (PSB), Amuro Tōru (detective), Bourbon (Black Organization). To protect Japan as a member of the PSB, he normally works at Cafe Poirot while apprenticing to Kogoro as a “detective-in-training”. On the other side of things, he’s also infiltrating the Black Organization, investigating the dark side of society.

Furuya's Mazda RX-7 FD3S

Kazami is eager to drive Furuya's white Mazda RX-7 FD3S. The car is hard to find since it was made from 1992 to 2002.

How well does it match the trope?
