* ''TabletopGame/{{Warhammer}}'': Under Bretonnian law, a knight can never receive corporal or capital punishment no matter how serious the crime they have found to have committed. A common workaround employed by noble juries is giving the poor sap an impossible RedemptionQuest that'll almost certainly get him killed, like "Go to the Vaults and kill the Orc warlord Balagran [[WithThisHerring with this fruit knife and none of your armour]]."

Uriah Gambit is sending your target on a hopeless *fighting* mission. Sending a letter that bluntly says "execute this guy" is Please Shoot The Messenger, not this.

* ''Theatre/{{Hamlet}}'': Claudius, realizing that Hamlet knows of his crimes, sends Hamlet to England(with [[ThoseTwoGuys Rosencrantz and Guildenstern]] to escort him) to deliver a message to the king. Said message essentially being, "The bearer of this message is to be executed." Hamlet manages to make an escape off-stage, leaving Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to unknowingly deliver the message. Toward the end of the play, the English ambassador arrives to inform the now-dead Claudius that his command has been fulfilled, and that "Theatre/RosencrantzAndGuildensternAreDead."

May overlap with ReassignedToAntarctica if the mission is to guard or otherwise stay posted in an extremely dangerous area. Related to TrickedToDeath, depending on the nature of the assignment. Contrast SnipeHunt, where the victim is set up for failure or humiliation, not death.

* ''Webcomic/GirlGenius:'' It's pretty likely a whole cadre of Geisterdamen was deliberately sent to die in Paris by The Queen of the Dawn, either as part of a bit of public theater to make herself look good, or because she's a fraud pretending to be their holy leader, or both.

* In ''WesternAnimation/{{Shrek}}'', Shrek goes to demand his swamp back from Lord Farquaad. Lord Farquaad agrees to return the swamp if Shrek will go and rescue Princess Fiona, who's guarded by a dragon. If Shrek succeeds, Farquaad gets the princess without risking his own life; if Shrek fails, then Farquaad gets rid of a trouble-making fairytale creature. Of course, it doesn't quite work out like that.
