Sister Trope to EyeColourChange, and this trope may be subverted into that, if a reason for the changes are revealed. Not to be confused with TechnicolorEyes, where the eyes are just different from the humanly possible. A common trait of a MarySue.

Some characters have a range of eye colors that change for no reason.

Minor sight gags such as BlankWhiteEyes don't count and neither do contacts. The latter would be EyeColourChange in RealLife, because there's a reason behind it.

Sister Trope to EyeColourChange, and this trope may be subverted into that, if a reason for the changes are revealed. Not to be confused with TechnicolorEyes, where the eyes are just different from the humanly possible. A common trait of a MarySue.

Kaleidoscope Eyes apply when the author clearly intends for the eye color to change in-universe, instead of having something like the lighting alter their perceived color. That would be InconsistentColoring.

The use of this trope usually adds a bit of mystery to a character or a world because something weird happens without clear explanation, usually occurring in settings with magical elements.

Compare and contrast WingdingEyes, where the eyes have pupils that are symbols.

MoodRingEyes is for when the color changes based on their mood or if a different personality comes to the fore.

* Charlie Bone in the ''Literature/ChildrenOfTheRedKing'' series has a "cousin" who can do this. She is, in fact, a very old shapeshifter and her eyes can't remember what color they are supposed to be. In the story it is unnerving to other characters and is treated more as a GlamourFailure.

-->Look carefully at the eyes, because the eyes of a REAL WITCH are different from yours and mine. Look in the middle of each eye where there is normally a little black dot. If she is a witch, the black dot will keep changing colour, and you will see fire and you will see ice dancing right in the very centre of the coloured dot. Kaleidoscope eyes seem unique to Loki; despite being [[VoluntaryShapeshifting able to change his form]], his eyes result in at least one GlamourFailure (eye-related glamour failure is common in Norse myth; Odin's shapeshifted forms were always one-eyed).
