%%[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
%%* As a general rule, anything with an ImprobablyFemaleCast or a CastFullOfPrettyBoys will radiate this trope in varying degrees. Some extremely so, others more subtle. In either case, there will usually be a lot of it.
%%* One show that feeds into this kind of shipping is ''PuellaMagiMadokaMagica''. With the exception of Mami Tomoe, ever other girl that is central into the story is paired off to one other, especially [[RescueRomance Madoka with Homura]] and [[FoeYay Sayaka with Kyouko]].
%%** Even some of the staff take part; UmeAoki even drew an unofficial doujinshi.
%%** With the case of [[FoeYay Sayaka and Kyouko]], you could be excused for mistaking the paring as the show's OfficialCouple if you are going by depictions of them outside of the show itself. Yes, on a matter of pure volume, those manage to out number Madoka and Homura(which, to be fair, they get a lot of attention as well)... and are considered the show's {{OTP}} by quite a few of its fans.
%%* ''SailorMoon'' has a legacy of Ho Yay Shipping so large that that is permeates almost '''every''' part of the series outside of the show/movies and it's [[OfficialCouple resident lesbian couple]] [[ButchLesbian Haruka Tenoh/Amara (Sailor Uranus)]] and [[LipstickLesbian Michiru Kaioh/Michelle (Sailor Neptune)]].
%%* ''CodeGeass''. Male, female... it doesn't matter since there is a rather large LoveDodecahedron at play in the story. It wouldn't take much for nearly every main character to be ship with someone of the same sex.
%%* There are two show in the ''{{Gundam}}'' franchise that fall into the "trap" of a CastFullOfPrettyBoys. They are ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing New Mobile Report Gundam Wing]]'' and ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam00'' respectively.
%%** In the case of ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing New Mobile Report Gundam Wing]]'', the legacy of HoYayShipping that surrounds the show is legendary. It has extended far outside the time of the show and continues to this day. Nearly sixteen years after the original showing of ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Gundam Wing]]'', shippers ''still'' have [[ShipToShipCombat debates]] over it. As you can guess, DieForOurShip runs rampant.
%%** ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Gundam Wing]]'''s status as a bastion of HoYayShipping has had a rather large effect on the franchise, to the point where shows after it have tried to invoke the same PeripheryDemographic at least in part to every other target. The only exceptions to this are ''[[Anime/AfterWarGundamX Gundam X]]'', ''Anime/TurnAGundam'', and anything that predates ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Gundam Wing]]'' (so ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam'' to ''[[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam G Gundam]]''). In the case of anything that predates ''Wing'', it's not so much as they have no Ho Yay Shipping; it's the fact that they are not quite as loud nor as large.
%%* ''OuranHighSchoolHostClub'' is a rather unique case since; they invoke this, in-universe, [[LampshadeHanging on purpose]].
%%* ''{{No 6}}'' fandom has Sion and Nezumi. It's difficult to find a discussion of the series without people asking if it's in the BoysLoveGenre.

%%* {{Asterix}} and Obelix.

%%[[folder:Literature]]
%%* ''TheLordOfTheRings'' is famous for the EveryoneIsGay interpretation, due to the fact that the main cast is formed of four {{hobbits}}, one elf, a dwarf, two humans and a wizard, and they are all ''male''
%%** Frodo and Sam are probably the most popular pairing. [[WordOfGod Tolkien himself apparently stated that they were not in love with each other]], and it didn't slow the fandom down a bit. Given that Tolkien specifically compares Sam's defence of Frodo from Shelob to a small furry animal defending its ''mate'' against a mountain of horn and hide, it's not hard to see why. It's much more likely that Tolkien was aiming for a [[FireForgedFriends purely platonic reading]], or that the characters being gay/bi never crossed his mind, the relationships being influenced by his experiences in the FirstWorldWar and [[ValuesDissonance an all male cast not automatically drawing gay rumours back in the first half of the 20th century]].
%%* Despite the series being primarily about heterosexual romance, ''{{Twilight}}'' Ho Yay Shipping is common among fans and [[{{Hatedom}} anti-fans]] alike (Alice's tendency to show HoYay-ish affection for Bella helps to encourage it).

%%* {{House}} and Wilson are a common target for SlashFic, supported by massive amounts of HoYay in the show.
%%* In the glory days of ''{{Heroes}}'', you could pick two male characters more or less at random and find SlashFic for them. Popular pairings were:
%%** [[IncestIsRelative Peter/Nathan]]. One of the show's writers attempted to HandWave their touchy-feely conversations and general lack of personal space by explaining "They're Italian!", which swiftly became a RunningGag in the fandom.
%%** Sylar/Mohinder, a sort of BeastAndBeauty / FoeYay pairing which was fueled by a rather kinky torture sequence in which Mohinder tied down Sylar and breathily whispered threats in his ear.
%%* Kirk and Spock of ''StarTrek'' were the joint {{trope namer}}s for SlashFic, notable in that this predated the modern Internet by decades.
%%** Sulu/Chekov benefit from the general ''lack'' of attention to their personal lives; the few female love interests who have shown up tend to get a HandWave from fans or a "What? NoBisexuals?" Sulu's daughter has been seen as proof that he's straight, [[DidNotDoTheResearch ignoring the fact that even in the 21st century plenty of gay and bisexual men have biological children]], and some shippers have even seen Chekov's affectionate introduction of Demora in ''Generations'' as a hint that maybe she [[HasTwoMommies has two daddies]]. [[WordOfGod George Takei has said]] that he played Sulu as straight, for what it's worth.
%%** On ''StarTrekDeepSpaceNine'', the actors playing Garak and Bashir have both acknowledged and supported the interpretation that their characters were flirting with each other, to the joy of their slashers everywhere.
%%* ''{{iCarly}}'', with the main pairing being Carly/Sam(antha).
%%* In the ''{{Supernatural}}'' fandom, Sam/Dean is so popular there are ''canon'' shippers, thanks to an {{in-universe}} series of books about Sam and Dean (the author is a prophet who didn't realise he was writing about real people). This, it should be noted, is an ''[[SiblingIncest incest pairing]]''.
%%-->'''Dean''': There's Sam girls and Dean girls and... What's a slash fan?\\
%%'''Sam''': As in Sam slash Dean. Together.\\
%%'''Dean''': Like together, together? They do know we're brothers, right?\\
%%'''Sam''': Doesn't seem to matter.\\
%%'''Dean''': Well, that's just sick!
%%** Other notable ships are Dean/Castiel and (more rarely) Sam/Gabriel and [[FoeYay Sam/Lucifer]]. Fans of Dean/Castiel especially like to point out that if the writers are aware enough of the slashers in their fandom to write them into the show, it's entirely possible that the Dean/Cas subtext (suggestive lines, intense staring etc.) is intentional. Whether it is, or just ShipTeasing is debatable, but a fair argument can actually be made for Dean being canonically bisexual, so it's entirely possible that it is. [[hottip:*:To clarify, Dean appears to have a massive crush on a male TV character in one episode, and is targeted by a male siren in another (the siren was previously established as taking the shape of the other, male, targets' dream women). The siren claims to have been Dean's ideal younger brother, but its relationship with the other targets had been explicitly sexual, and no one seems all that surprised by the siren being male. Of course, that could be taken to say a lot about Dean's ideal relationship with his actual brother (though judging from Dean's subconscious where his idealized version of Sam is when the latter is a child and still dependent on him, it might not).]]

** %%** [[IncestIsRelative Peter/Nathan]]. One of the show's writers attempted to HandWave their touchy-feely conversations and general lack of personal space by explaining "They're Italian!", which swiftly became a RunningGag in the fandom.
** %%** Sylar/Mohinder, a sort of BeastAndBeauty / FoeYay pairing which was fueled by a rather kinky torture sequence in which Mohinder tied down Sylar and breathily whispered threats in his ear.
* %%* Kirk and Spock of ''StarTrek'' were the joint {{trope namer}}s for SlashFic, notable in that this predated the modern Internet by decades.

* %%* ''{{iCarly}}'', with the main pairing being Carly/Sam(antha).
* %%* In the ''{{Supernatural}}'' fandom, Sam/Dean is so popular there are ''canon'' shippers, thanks to an {{in-universe}} series of books about Sam and Dean (the author is a prophet who didn't realise he was writing about real people). This, it should be noted, is an ''[[SiblingIncest incest pairing]]''.

'''Sam''': %%'''Sam''': Doesn't seem to matter.\\
'''Dean''': %%'''Dean''': Well, that's just sick!
** %%** Other notable ships are Dean/Castiel and (more rarely) Sam/Gabriel and [[FoeYay Sam/Lucifer]].

** To clarify the Dean thing, he appears to have a massive crush on a male TV character in one episode, and is targeted by a male siren in another (the siren was previously established as taking the shape of the other, male, targets' dream women). The siren claims to have been Dean's ideal younger brother, but its relationship with the other targets had been explicitly sexual, and no one seems all that surprised by the siren being male. Of course, that could be taken to say a lot about Dean's ideal relationship with his actual brother...

** The book is one of the most famous for the EveryoneIsGay interpretation, due to the fact that the main cast is formed of four {{hobbits}}, one elf, a dwarf, two humans and a wizard, and they are all ''male''. But Frodo is the king of this {{trope}}. Sam is the master of the [[BiTheWay ambiguously bisexual]] one. At least Sam gets married at the end; Frodo never does.
** It's much more likely that Tolkien was aiming for a [[FireForgedFriends purely platonic reading]], or that the characters being gay/bi never crossed his mind, the relationships being influenced by his experiences in the FirstWorldWar and an all male cast not automatically drawing gay rumours back in the first half of the 20th century.

Of course, that could be taken to say a lot about Dean's [[IfYouKnowWhatIMean ideal relationship]] with his actual brother...

** At one point (can't remember which comic it is, sadly), Obelix bawls: "You don't love me, Asterix!" His response? To pat his arm and say, "Of course I love you." Even in context it's kind of suspect. And has anyone noticed how often he sleeps over at Asterix's, despite having a house of his own?
** And another sterling example would be Obelix refusing to leave Asterix even when the former is banished from their village in ''Asterix and the Cauldron'', [[http://i36.tinypic.com/10376ol.png willingly following him into exile]].

These were transplanted (albeit with a few minor adjustments) from the Ho Yay page, since they\'re closer to HLP material than Ho Yay, keeping with the typical depiction of male-male friendships in fiction of that era.

Added DiffLines:

* {{Tintin}} / Captain Haddock. Although Haddock never quite gives up the bottle, it's the reporter who changes him from a pathetic, drunken wreck into a guy who can at least get his act together when it matters. They go everywhere together, and Tintin moves in with him halfway through the series. There are few moments in any comic series as heartbreakingly beautiful as when the Captain is prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice in ''Tintin in Tibet''. Tintin refuses - "Either we both live or we die together!"
* And then there's Thompson and Thom(p)son, in ''Tintin and the Picaros'' when they have to face execution: "How about some famous last words?" "Er..."Kiss me, Thompson", will that do?" If that isn't Ho Yay, ''nothing'' is.
** Tintin and Chang. Tintin didn't even know the kid for more than a few weeks, yet the whole premise of ''Tintin in Tibet'' was him risking his life to search for him in the icy Nepalese wastelands where a plane Chang had been in had crashed. And it's heavily implied that had it not been for the persuasion of his companions, Tintin would have kept up the hunt until he dropped dead from cold, exhaustion and exposure.
* {{Asterix}} and Obelix. The pair are almost inseparable, and even though Asterix constantly berates Obelix for being an idiot and obsessed with eating - and Obelix even punches him on one occasion (given Obelix's SuperStrength, this is quite something) - they're still the best of friends. There's at least one moment in the comics, possibly more, where the two gave each other a big manly hug after a fight. Not to mention that Asterix's lack of a girlfriend is commented on by the villagers at least once, and Obelix can be quite fiercely devoted to Asterix...
