Green Eyes are an unusual eye color in real life, but they are not a trope. You might want one of these tropes instead:

->''"See these eyes so green\\
I can stare for a thousand years"''
-->-- '''Music/DavidBowie''', "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)"

'''Green eyes''' are striking and sexy, especially when paired with [[SignificantGreenEyedRedhead red hair]][[note]]Individually, they're the rarest natural eye and hair colors -- but are more often seen together in fiction than RealLife[[/note]]. Such a character is usually female, which is TruthInTelevision as most people with green eyes in RealLife are women. It also signifies a spitfire or an untrustworthy individual, particularly if he or she is also an EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette.

They can mean a character possesses an innate, natural magic, more druidic than wizardly. Nature spirits often have green eyes.

Despite the fact that cats can have a wide variety of eye colors, green is especially associated with them. Green eyes in fiction are also usually described as emerald or jade green, despite the fact that eyes as intensely green as various precious stones are very rare in RealLife and it's more typical for the green to have some brown in it (fiction tends to classify anything between brown and bright green as hazel eyes).

Oddly enough, ''not'' regarded as a warning of the GreenEyedMonster. Also has no connection to SicklyGreenGlow, apparently.

It should be noted that these eye color tropes are not just for characters who have eyes of this color, but when the color actually stands for something significant to that character, like blue for water, green for earth, red for evil, etc. Please do not add characters who just happen to have eyes of this color without a substantial reason behind it.

[[folder:Anime and Manga]]
* The titular character of ''Anime/AgnisPhilosophy'', who fits neatly into the innately magical part of the trope, being a mage of some sort in an UrbanFantasy setting.
* ''Manga/AttackOnTitan'' has two significant examples among the cast. Protagonist Eren Yeager is given vibrant, teal-green eyes in the anime to signify his passionate nature and [[LovecraftianSuperpower mysterious]] [[CompellingVoice powers]] of unknown nature. In comparison, Bertolt Hoover has a dark, muted shade of green that hints at certain hidden aspects of his character -- namely, [[spoiler: his untrustworthy nature as TheMole and inhuman powers as the Colossal Titan]].
* ''Webcomic/AxisPowersHetalia'': England has green eyes. Seeing as how he's, well, [[MoeAnthropomorphism England]], it could be just because they're more common in England than other places. Of course, he also uses BlackMagic.
** So do [[ValleyGirl Poland]], [[NiceGuy Spain]] and [[YaoiFangirl Hungary]]. [[TheWoobie Lithuania]] has them in the manga (he has blue eyes in the anime). The eyes of the Netherlands seem to switch between this, amber and blue.
*** Hungary (the country) also happens to be tied with Turkey for the highest percentage of green eyes in the world: 20%, compared to a world average of 2%.
** Sweden had green eyes earlier in the manga, but in later illustrations (as well as the anime) his eyes are coloured blue.
** Green is the most common eye color for European characters. No, it's not blue; of the Caucasian characters, up to (the color schemes can be inconsistent) 21 have green eyes, 11 have blue eyes, 7 have purple eyes.
* Cassandra Jill Warlock from ''Manga/BlackBloodBrothers'' has green eyes, and is also an EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette vampire.
* Yomi and Dead Master from the ''Anime/BlackRockShooter'' OAV; this may actually be an indicator of the GreenEyedMonster, despite the usual distance.
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'': Ulquiorra is the EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette type.
* The titular character of ''Manga/CandyCandy'' has green eyes. They're a reason why [[NiceGuy Anthony]] falls for her.
* Hisoka of ''Manga/DescendantsOfDarkness'' has very striking ones. WhatBeautifulEyes comes into effect a couple of times.
* Vincent Law from ''Anime/ErgoProxy'' has exotic-looking eyes of a light green, almost yellow hue.
* Klaus von dem Eberbach of ''Manga/FromEroicaWithLove'' has green eyes. Dorian Red Gloria compares them to Mosel wine bottles, which are green.
* Maes Hughes; his wife, Gracia; and his daughter, Elysia, from ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'' all have green eyes. It seems to run in the family.
* Cain's eyes in ''[[Manga/CountCain Godchild]]'' are described as emerald with gold in them and are seen as beautiful and mysterious.
* Many of the Gray Wolves in ''LightNovel/{{Gosick}}''.
* ''Manga/InuYasha'': Shippou is a young fox {{youkai}} with red hair and green eyes. He's loyal, but he's also a trickster. Despite his young age, he has immense magical talent for his species, lampshaded when he's accidentally dragged into a kitsune examination session he didn't even know existed. Despite having no time to prepare for his exams and being the youngest examinee present, he wipes the floor with his fellow examinees, earning their absolute awe as he breaks records in the speed at which he climbs the Kitsune rankings. It's confirmed in-universe that one day he'll grow up to be a [[UpToEleven dai]]{{youkai}}.
* ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' examples: [[HotScientist Yui Ikari]], [[MrExposition Ritsuko Akagi]], ''Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion'''s newest AcePilot [[BloodKnight Mari Illustrious Makinami]] (though hers are blue-green) and ''[[EverythingsBetterWithPenguins PenPen]]''.
* One of the eyes of the MysteriousWaif Vivio of ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanoha'' is colored green. This had led to jokes about how Yuuno had a hand in her conception since he's one of the not-so-common examples of a male with green eyes.
* ''Manga/MahouSenseiNegima'' has Ayaka, to differentiate her from the rest of the (very brown-eyed) Japanese cast and Chachamaru, in a light, unnatural shade of emerald to emphasize her robotic nature.
* ''Manga/MermaidMelodyPichiPichiPitch'': Rina has these eyes while in mermaid form or [[MagicIdolSinger idol form]]. In human form, she has GrayEyes.
** By extension, all Green mermaids like her have these eyes, but they are just a racial trait, as [[OurMermaidsAreDifferent mermaids]] are ColorCodedforYourConvenience.
* Ginko from ''Manga/{{Mushishi}}'' has almost disturbingly vivid green eyes, especially in a world that doesn't make use of {{Mukokuseki}}. It's the first sign, [[WhiteHairBlackHeart apart from his hair]], that he's not quite normal.
* [[Myth/NorseMythology Loki]] of ''Manga/MythicalDetectiveLokiRagnarok'' is a ever mystical green-eyed redhead.
* James from ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'' has emerald green eyes, but they aren't mentioned in the series.
** As well as [[CurtainsMatchTheWindow green-haired]] Cilan in ''Best Wishes'', although he's more noticeable for being one of only two characters in the show with SkintoneSclerae. He's one of Ash's most trustworthy friends in the series and just a bit [[LargeHam hammy]] at times, but he has his BewareTheNiceOnes moments.
** Bianca, Ash's only female rival (so far), also has bright green eyes, fitting her [[GenkiGirl energetic personality]] rather well.
** Though he was seen with blue eyes once, Gary Oak has been shown to have green eyes when they close up on them.
** Isamu and his Clefairy from ''Manga/PocketMonsters'' have green eyes. Their Pikachu had it too, but he's since evolved into the typical brown eyes of the game.
* Fakir from ''Anime/PrincessTutu'' has green eyes to [[CurtainsMatchTheWindow match his hair]]. He definitely fits the "exotic and sexy" implication of the trope... [[spoiler:and he inherited Drosselmeyer's RewritingReality powers, so he fits the magical implications as well.]]
* Makoto/Sailor Jupiter from ''Franchise/SailorMoon'' has green eyes to underline her association with [[ElementalEyeColors plants and wood]].
* ''Anime/SpiritedAway'''s [[MysteriousProtector Haku]] has beautiful, striking green eyes, especially compared to the rest of the cast. At the same time, they are very cold and emotionless until [[spoiler:Chihiro helps him remember his name]]. It also helps that [[spoiler:he is a river spirit that can take the form of a dragon.]]
* ''Manga/TokyoGhoul'' has two particularly significant characters with green eyes, both of which hint there's much more to them than it first appears.
** Koutarou Amon, whose green eyes hint at the extreme passion concealed beneath his professional exterior. It also connects into the foreshadowing that [[spoiler:he has become a HalfHumanHybrid in the sequel]].
** Sen Takatsuki, the oft-discussed author, turns out to have green eyes that match her hair. A mysterious figure that drops hints of knowing far more than expected, she turns out to have a much larger role to play: [[spoiler:concealing herself behind ''four'' different identities, she is the only known natural hybrid in existence -- the legendary One-Eyed Owl, as well as the true leader of Aogiri]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comics]]
* ComicBook/{{Catwoman}} has always had green eyes canonically, though she has been played by non-green-eyed actresses; she fits the concept to a "T", being mysterious and associated with cats. [[Franchise/{{Batman}} Poison Ivy]] does, too, but that's mostly because she's part plant.
** They aren't the only Batman characters with green eyes, either. With [[DependingOnTheArtist respect to different artists]], ComicBook/TheJoker is often portrayed with green eyes (the shade varies) when a close-up of them is shown. This is, of course, going more with the "untrustworthy" and "spitfire" aspects of his personality, since [[BadassNormal he doesn't technically have any superpowers]] [[PowerBornOfMadness besides insanity]] (or, sometimes, "super-sanity"). It could also be to match his [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair hair color]] or to tie him to his [[TechnicolorScience chemical bath-based origin]]...
* Leetah from ''ComicBook/ElfQuest'', which is the first thing Cutter notices about her, as indicated in the narration boxes. Also, quite a few other elves, including the plant-shapers Redlance, Goodtree and Kaslen, fitting the "natural magic" bit.
* ''ComicBook/TheFlash'''s Wally West. One of the minor differences between him and Barry Allen that lead some people to believe the Dark Flash may have been Barry, since he had blue eyes. Turned out to be an alternate universe version of Wally that happened to have blue eyes.
* In the comics, it's revealed that Demona from ''WesternAnimation/{{Gargoyles}}'' has green eyes. (It was hard to tell in the animated series).
* Oliver Queen, a.k.a. ComicBook/GreenArrow, has green eyes, which he has passed on, somewhat improbably, to both of his sons.
** Including the ''adopted one''.
* The ComicBook/IncredibleHulk is often shown with green eyes, especially in recent years, though, in the past, they've been red. Bruce Banner, on the other hand, is more often shown with brown or blue eyes, the change to green being the signal that [[YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry running might be a good idea]].
** ComicBook/SheHulk has green eyes too. In fact, generally speaking, if gamma radiation turns someone's ''skin'' green, his or her eyes usually turn green too.
* Green Eyes [[SignificantGreenEyedRedhead paired with]] [[HeroesWantRedheads red hair]] seems to be a thing in the Franchise/MarvelUniverse.
** Mary Jane Watson from ''Franchise/SpiderMan'' being the ur-example, of course.
** Pepper Potts, [[ComicBook/IronMan Tony Stark]]'s personal assistant and on again/off again love interest.
** Jean Grey of the ComicBook/XMen fits this description, as does her alternate reality daughter, Rachel Summers.
** And now we have Hope Summers, who, despite not being related by birth to Jean, has the same red hair and green eyes as her. It should be noted that Hope, just like Jean and Rachel, [[spoiler:carries the Phoenix Force with her.]]
*** Not related to Jean ''that we know of''. The part of the birth certificate that would allude to her father is blank, and her biological grandmother vaguely refers to her daughter having had several boyfriends. This means that her dad could be Cable, Stryfe or Nate Grey (all genetically the same person and all - well, Cable and Nate for certain - with a thing for redheads with green eyes). While Nate was discorporated at the time, this is the Summers family. Weirdness and apparent impossibility come standard.
** {{Wolverine}} seems to have a thing for women with this, his longtime love for Jean was later revealed to be just the latest in a long line of red headed, green-eyed girls.
*** And then there's his [[OppositeSexClone female clone]]/daughter figure, ComicBook/{{X23}}, who also has green eyes.
** Thundra also fits.
** Firestar (in some versions. In others, she has blue eyes).
* In ''ComicBook/{{Persepolis}}'', Marjane Satrapi mentions a university classmate who was considered especially beautiful because of her green eyes; most Iranians, she says, have black eyes.
* ''Franchise/{{Superman}}'': Lex Luthor has green eyes. This served as a plot point when his doppelganger from another universe turned up dead: he was differentiated by having blue eyes. Luthor is also known to dope up on Kryptonite-based steroids, which make his eyes seem unnatural. And of course, [[GreenEyedMonster given Luthor's intense jealousy of Superman]], they're thematically appropriate.
** Oddly enough, ''Series/{{Smallville}}'' gave Lex blue eyes (traditonally the color of Superman's eyes) and Clark's looked a lot greener.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Animation]]
* Tony Toponi from ''WesternAnimation/AnAmericanTail'' is shown to have these as he stares at Bridget in a love-struck daze.
* [[MeanCharacterNiceActor Doctor Calico]], the villain of the ShowWithinAShow from ''Disney/{{Bolt}}'' has green, catlike eyes.
* Some of the Franchise/DisneyAnimatedCanon cats have green eyes, including Gideon from ''Disney/{{Pinocchio}}'', Mittens from ''Disney/{{Bolt}}'', and Thomas O'Malley and Toulouse from ''Disney/TheAristocats''.
** Lucifer from ''Disney/{{Cinderella}}'' has green eyes with yellow sclerae (the whites of the eyes).
** Figaro from ''Disney/{{Pinocchio}}'' normally has gold eyes, but his eyes occasionally appear light yellowish-green.
* Scar from ''Disney/TheLionKing'' is an example of the black hair + green eyes = evil combination.
** Though his green eyes might have represented envy as well. Kovu, from the sequel, on the other hand, plays with it a bit. He's certainly feisty. At first, he also fits the untrustworthy role, considering that he was sent to kill Simba. Later, however, due to a HeelFaceTurn thanks to ThePowerOfLove, he ends up genuinely wanting to join Simba's pride, therefore making him a traitorous and untrustworthy figure to the Outlanders. Later, said Outlanders ambush Kovu and Simba. And Simba is then convinced that Kovu led him into it.
* Esméralda from the Disney adaptation of ''Disney/TheHunchbackOfNotreDame'' possesses the positive qualities and her name even means emerald.
** She, despite being the film's heroine, was actually also modelled after several female villains from earlier Disney films, who all have green eyes, so that she can actually be portrayed as evil by Frollo, the film's real BigBad, while to the viewers, she's actually on the side of good. This is actually done to show the fact that she is hated by the villain because he thinks that she is evil, even though she really isn't.
* WesternAnimation/{{Megamind}}. Which also becomes a way of [[spoiler:telling it's him when he's sometimes disguised.]]
* Aisling from ''WesternAnimation/TheSecretOfKells'' has green eyes, which fits the "magical" aspect of this trope since she's one of TheFairFolk. She's also something of a NatureSpirit, being fiercely protective of the forest outside Kells.
* Rapunzel from Disney's ''Disney/{{Tangled}}'' has inherited her mother's green eyes. It's particularly striking since she's one of the few Disney characters (not counting villains) ''at all'' and only Franchise/DisneyPrincess to have green eyes.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* ''Film/ThreeTenToYuma2007'', Ben Wade is attracted to girls with green eyes. Interestingly, Alice, Dan Evan's wife, has green eyes, making some viewers speculate that [[spoiler:Alice was Velvet, a girl from San Francisco whom Ben Wade had an affair with, and other subtle hints leading other viewers (or the same) that William, Dan Evan's son, could be indeed Ben Wade's son]]. It should be noted that this is [[WordOfGod unintentional from the filmmakers]] and that it does not appear in the original short story.
* The Mad Hatter, in Creator/TimBurton's ''Film/AliceInWonderland2010'', has extremely bright green eyes, though they turn a disturbing reddish-gold when he's agitated. The Cheshire Cat also has unnervingly huge green eyes.
* In ''Film/BigTroubleInLittleChina'', David Lo Pan, the Big Bad, has to sacrifice a woman with green eyes in order to undo a curse that keeps his true form immaterial. Un/Fortunately [[spoiler:the love interests of both the main protagonist and his kung fu buddy have green eyes, so they have to go defeat Lo Pan's crew in a wire-fight to the death.]]
* Irena Gallier in ''Film/CatPeople'', for which Music/DavidBowie's eponymous song was written (see quote at top of page), has green eyes and is a werepanther. Her brother, however, also a werepanther, has [[http://images2.layoutsparks.com/1/161378/alex-de-large-bordered-31000.jpg violet eyes]].
* Betty Ross in ''Film/{{Hulk}}'' for an entirely different symbolism, e.g. to establish her [[LoveInterest connection to Bruce Banner]], who of course has a tendency to [[HulkingOut turn green at inopportune moments]].
* In the film version of ''Film/TheLordOfTheRings'', Pippin has green eyes.
* In ''Film/RiseOfThePlanetOfTheApes'', the drug ALZ-112 causes a green pigmentation in the apes' eyes. [[spoiler:This is eventually how Caesar can tell the updated version of the drug worked on all the other apes in the sanctuary]]. The scientists don't know what causes the side effect.
** It even leads Caesar's mom to be nicknamed "Bright Eyes" - [[MythologyGag the same name Zira gave to]] Creator/CharltonHeston's Taylor in ''Film/PlanetOfTheApes1968'' (though Heston's eyes are blue).
* Loki, in the promotional material for ''Film/{{Thor}}'', with the character being a literal case of [[spoiler:a GreenEyedMonster]]. In the actual film his eyes are blue.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
* The main characters in ''Literature/The39Clues'', [[TheSmartGuy Amy]] and [[AnnoyingYoungerSibling Dan]] Cahill, are said to have jade green eyes.
* Every princess of Queensland in ''Literature/ABrothersPrice'' is green eyed and has red hair; it's their distinguishing feature. [[spoiler:Halley's]] eyes are [[WhatBeautifulEyes particularly striking]].
* In a very famous Turkish novel called "Calikusu (lit. The Wren)" by Resat Nuri Guntekin, the heroine's unfaithful fiancé has alluring green eyes, which become a symbol for both his charm and his betrayal, as a foil to the ostensibly frivolous but deep down painfully loyal personality of his fiancée, who has hazel eyes.
* Briar, a plant mage, from the ''Literature/CircleOfMagic'' series has green eyes. His student, Evvy (a stone mage), described him once as the "jade-eyed boy".
* Tavi of ''Literature/CodexAlera'' has green eyes, although he is neither magical nor catlike. [[spoiler:By the end of ''Furies of Calderon'', so does Kitai, who is both.]]
* Jasmine of ''Literature/DeltoraQuest'' is described as having "almond-shaped green eyes", definitely fitting with her [[RaisedByWolves wild girl]] backstory.
* The Lady, Literature/{{Discworld}}'s goddess of luck, has eyes that are all green, edge to edge. (Although an illustration in Discworld/TheLastHero shows them as white, for some reason.)
* In Susan Fletcher's ''Dragon Chronicles'' (''Dragon's Milk'', ''Flight of the Dragon Kyn'', and ''Sign of the Dove''), green eyes are the sign of someone with the ability to speak to dragons, either inherited or gained through drinking dragon's milk.
* Marcone from ''Literature/TheDresdenFiles'' has eyes 'the color of old money.' They seem to be his most striking feature and is in keeping with his character as a very unusual mortal [[spoiler:being cunning enough to both become and stay the first ever mortal Freeholding lord certainly counts for something]], but wouldn't be nearly so significant if Harry didn't keep mentioning it [[HoYay every five minutes]].
* According to Sax Rohmer, Literature/FuManchu has "long, magnetic eyes of the true cat-green" -- which seems somewhat improbable for a Chinaman.
* The green eyes of Scarlett O'Hara (a classic vixen) in ''Literature/GoneWithTheWind'' are mentioned repeatedly in the narrative, rather charmingly when Rhett describes them as "twin goldfish bowls filled to the brim with the clearest green water." Margaret Mitchell later admitted it was her favorite color.
* The fact that Literature/HarryPotter and his mother, Lily, who had red hair, both have green eyes is emphasized repeatedly. [[ChekhovsGun With good reason]].
** In [[Film/HarryPotter the movies]], they're blue instead - Creator/DanielRadcliffe couldn't stand the green lenses. Luckily, Lily's portrayer Geraldine Somerville has the same color.[[note]][[http://thelastmuggle.com/2011/07/18/you-have-your-mothers-eyes-kinda-sorta-but-not-really/ Young Lily]], [[WTHCastingAgency on the other hand]]...[[/note]]
** [[spoiler:Albus Severus Potter, Harry's middle son, is described as the only one of his children to have inherited their grandmother's eyes, completing a rare triple-GenerationXerox.]]
* Finnick Odair and Annie Cresta from ''Literature/TheHungerGames'' are both described as having beautiful "sea green eyes", which actually seems to be a common trait where they come from, District Four, the fishing district. While Annie is noted several times as being a quite lovely young lady, this trope is even more fitting for Finnick, who is essentially MrFanservice.
* Literature/JaneEyre had green eyes. The morning after they first became engaged, Mr. Rochester paid her extravagant compliments, including that her eyes were "hazel", which was followed in the exposition with "I had green eyes, reader; but you must excuse the mistake: for him they were new-dyed, I suppose."
* In Creator/MichaelFlynn's ''[[Literature/SpiralArm January Dancer]]'', the woman is introduced as having green eyes -- not like grass but like flint -- before her name is even given.
* In Creator/PeterSBeagle's novel ''Literature/TheLastUnicorn'', Schmendrick the Magician is often mentioned to have green eyes.
* Percy from ''Literature/PercyJacksonAndTheOlympians'' has sea-green eyes, because he is the son of Poseidon. In fact, it seems to be fairly common in the series with a good portion of named characters having green eyes.
** Like Harry Potter above, they hired [[Creator/LoganLerman an actor]] with blue eyes to play Percy in the movie (but blue still fits for sea, and they still match [[http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0571727/ his on-screen father]]).
* Hephyra from ''Literature/ThePrincessSeries'' is a dryad with vivid green eyes.
* Finny from ''Literature/ASeparatePeace'' possesses a pair, emphasizing his free-spirited nature. [[HoYay Gene is fond of]] [[WhatBeautifulEyes pointing them out]].
* In ''Literature/SeptimusHeap'', all people with at least a little training in wizardry have green eyes. Jenna is quite displeased that no matter how much she studies, her eyes stay [[RoyalBlood purple]].
* The ''Sexton Blake'' stories feature [[http://www.sextonblake.co.uk/plummer.html George Marsden Plummer]], a recurring villain whose eyes turn green whenever he's excited or under stress.
* In ''Sewer, Gas & Electric'', a racist-engineered plague was released to wipe out everyone of black African descent on Earth. Because the one responsible suspected that he, too, might have a remote black ancestor, he designed it to spare anyone with green eyes like himself, regardless of ethnic background. After the plague ran its course, the only black people left were ones with green eyes, a miniscule fraction of the population.
* Matteo and Kalid in ''Literature/SomeoneElsesWar'' both have green eyes, which signifies their North African ancestry.
* ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire'':
** A Lannister family trait, paired with lovely blonde hair. Lord Tywin has green eyes flecked with gold. His twin children, Cersei and Jaime, have matching emerald eyes. Cersei's three children all have green eyes as well [[spoiler:because they were born of incest between Jaime and Cersei]]. Tyrion, TheUnfavourite of Tywin's brood, has only one green eye; the other is black.
** Resident MagnificentBastard Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish has gray-green DullEyesOfUnhappiness, as noted by Sansa upon first meeting with him.
** Jojen Reed has true green eyes the color of moss, rather than the bluish-brown that is usually called "green" in human eyes. It's implied to be a result of his prophetic greensight.
* Akhor the Silver King of the [[OurDragonsAreDifferent Kantri]] in ''Literature/TalesOfKolmar'' is green-eyed with a matching soulgem. His birth was seen as an omen, though none knew of what - admittedly this was because he was silver, for green eyes aren't rare for his kind. Still, the [[OurGodsAreDifferent Winds]] gave him [[spoiler:a human body]] when he was dying. Even then he had the same eyes, and "the eyes of a dragon are perilous deep".
* Most of Firestar's family (and at least one other major bloodline) in ''Literature/WarriorCats'' fit this description, although the trait seems rarer outside of [=ThunderClan=]. When someone's green eyes are brought up repeatedly, it usually signals a bold or strong character. And the eyes are usually described as emerald-green or leaf-green, even though brilliant green eyes are usually a purebred trait. RealLife cats tend to have the duller yellow-green kind, especially in populations that have been feral for many generations.
* Creator/RogerZelazny loved putting green-eyed characters in his works. How much? It shows up in one fan's Roger Zelazny [[http://where-there-had-been-darkness.blogspot.com/p/roger-zelazny-drinking-game.html drinking game]].
* In ''Literature/DangerousSpirits'', Niki's eyes are noted to be an extremely vivid green, reflecting his exoticness and the fact that he's a spirit. Sol's eyes change to the same color at the end of the book.
* In ''Literature/VampireAcademy'', the Dashkov and Dragomir families share the genetic trait of jade green eyes. They are also both known for stronger connection to magic than any of the other royals.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* In the classic ''Series/BattlestarGalactica1978'', Apollo is the only character in the main cast to have green eyes.
* In the new ''Series/{{Battlestar Galactica|2003}}'', Starbuck and Dee are the only characters with green eyes (albeit slightly different in shade). This is their only point of physical resemblance besides being female...[[spoiler:which is slightly ironic considering Apollo is in love with one of them and marries the other]].
* Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer has green eyes.
* Stella Bonasera from ''Series/{{CSINY}}'' has green eyes that are sometimes mistaken for blue eyes.
* In the new series of ''Series/DoctorWho'', the main cast of the Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond and Rory Williams all have green eyes.
* DS Barbara Havers of ''Series/TheInspectorLynleyMysteries'' has a lovely, expressive pair of sage green eyes. True to type, she's a [[FieryRedhead redheaded]] [[{{Tsundere}} spitfire]].
* [[TheLabRat Abby]] [[PerkyGoth Sciuto]] from ''Series/{{NCIS}}'' has green eyes. Tony [=DiNozzo=] and Tim [=McGee=] also have green eyes, as did Director Sheppard. In fact, NCIS has a rather remarkable concentration of them.
* ''Series/OnceUponATime'': Red, [[spoiler:her mother]], and her grandmother all have green eyes. [[spoiler:They could under certain circumstances fit the 'untrustworthy' part of the trope as they all are (were in Granny's case) {{werewolves}}, and they fit the 'magical' version for the same reason.]]
* ''Series/TheOuterLimits1995'': In "Last Supper", the immortal Laura/Jade's eyes are shown to be a very striking [[MeaningfulName jade-green]] to signify that there's something unnatural about her.
* In the ''Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration'' episode "Sub Rosa", Dr. Crusher says her female ancestors all had green eyes; it turns out to be the result of a relationship with a certain energy being.
* Dean Winchester from ''Series/{{Supernatural}}'' has green eyes and certainly fits the 'spitfire' characteristic to the letter.
* Alex Krycek from ''Series/TheXFiles'' has green eyes. Fanficcers are fond of pointing this out. He's also a EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette, thus fulfilling the "untrustworthy" requirement.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Music]]
* The Music/NickCave MurderBallad "Curse of Millhaven"'s star Lottie: "If you think that you've seen a pair of eyes more green/ Then you sure haven't seen 'em round here." Later, "I've struck horror in the heart of this town/ Like my eyes ain't green and my hair ain't yellow/ It's more like the other way around."
* The Music/{{Coldplay}} song "Green Eyes".
* "Green Eyes" by Crucifixion.
* Dark Moor has a song called "Green Eyes".
* The Erykah Badu song "Green Eyes", which has rather more to do with the GreenEyedMonster than not.
* Music/{{Gorillaz}}: When we [[EyesAlwaysShut finally see]] [[BlindingBangs Noodle's eyes clearly]] in the ''El Manana'', they're bright green.
* The Music/GraveDigger song "Emerald Eyes" from the ''Excalibur'' album.
* "Green Eyes" by Husker Du.
* "Jolene" by Dolly Parton has the lyrics: "With flamin' locks of auburn hair/With ivory skin and eyes of [[SignificantGreenEyedRedhead emerald green]]".
* The Sugarloaf song "Green-Eyed Lady".
* "Aquellos Ojos Verdes" by Adolfo Utrera and Nilo Menedez became very popular in the 1930s when it was "translated" by Eddie Rivera and Eddie Woods to become "Green Eyes". Since its initial release in 1929, it has been covered dozens of times.
** Nick also has a song called simply "Green Eyes".
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tabletop Games]]
* The [[BigScrewedUpFamily Whateley family]] of ''{{TabletopGame/Deadlands}}'' [[RedRightHand all have vivid green eyes]], thanks to a combination of magical influence and massive amounts of inbreeding. To go along with the green eyes, all Whateleys have powerful magic, especially BloodMagic.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Toys]]
* In ''Toys/{{Bionicle}}'''s first year, green eyes were exclusive to Earth (dark green) and Air (lime) element characters. In 2004 and 2005, Fire characters were given lime eyes as well (while the Air element switched to red). Then, from 2006 to 2008, ''all'' heroic characters became lime-eyed. Meanwhile, orange and red came to represent evil.

[[folder:Video Games]]
* ''VideoGame/AmericanMcGeesAlice'' series: [[Literature/AliceInWonderland Alice Liddell]].
* ''VideoGame/BeyondGoodAndEvil'': '''Everything''' about Jade is green, including her eyes. They're definitely "mysterious, powerful and attractive." Her sidekick Double H also has much darker green eyes of stability...[[ScreamingWarrior sort]] [[SpaceMarine of]].
* ''VideoGame/BlazBlue'': All three main characters have green eyes of the same shade. In the first game, it was a hint that they are all blood related despite having different family names. Each of them has unnaturally high aptitude with armagus (although Ragna needs the titular [=BlazBlue=]).
* ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII'': Aerith, probably to point out her Cetra ancestry. Also, her name is said to be an anagram of Earth.
* ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyX'': Rikku is the only Guardian in Yuna's pilgrimage to have green eyes. One of Yuna's heterochromatic eyes is green as well. It seems to be a racial trait of the Al Bhed.
* ''VideoGame/GoldenSun'': Sheba has them, and in ''VideoGame/GoldenSunDarkDawn'', Tyrell, Amiti and Sveta have them.
* ''VideoGame/LunarTheSilverStar'': Alex is considered to be special, because, like his hero Dyne, he "has the green eyes".
** Which is a strange thing to say when you consider the fact that Dyne has ''brown'' eyes.
*** It's never actually stated that Dyne has green eyes in the game, though there is a line where one of the dragons tells Alex that he hasn't "seen eyes like those since Dyne." The line likely refers to the determination in Alex's eyes being like that of Dyne, rather than the eye color.
* ''Franchise/MassEffect'': Green eyes seem to be common in the universe, at least compared to the present day. ''VideoGame/MassEffect2'' features Yeoman Kelly Chambers as Shepard's new personal assistant. She's a green-eyed redhead bombshell in [[Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries the grand tradition of female Yeomen]]. And yes, [[RomanceSidequest you can get with her in the game]].
** Both the original and the new default for female Commander Shepard make her a green-eyed redhead.
** [[AcePilot Joker]] also has green eyes.
* ''VideoGame/MaxPayne'': A very different use of green eyes happens in the game: since the SicklyGreenGlow is firmly associated with [[DrugsAreBad the drug Valkyr]] in it, the color green is always bad news. In that one instance, right after TheReveal, Max utters: "[[PrivateEyeMonologue You complete the jigsaw puzzle to discover it is a picture of yourself, finishing that same puzzle]]. [[ParanoiaFuel A mad, green-eyed killer behind you]]."
* VideoGame/MetalGearSolid: All the Snakes have green eyes. Solid Snake is paler than his father or his brothers and has an almost sage-green color, while Big Boss' is more blue-green. Liquid in the [[UpdatedRerelease Twin Snakes]] has the deepest shade. Notably, they're all considered sexy by people in and out of their games.
* Franchise/{{Ratchet|AndClank}} has emerald eyes. Clank had teal-ish eyes until the Future Trilogy, throughout which he sported bright, lime-green eyes.
* ''VideoGame/SengokuBasara'': Ishida Mitsunari is the only character in the series with green eyes, which are light and almost yellow at times. With his white skin and hair, they look very striking and may represent envy or corruption.
* Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog has intense green eyes. Older art pieces show Sonic originally had brown/black eyes. These changed to green when he became Super Sonic in the Genesis games.
** Rouge the Bat fits this trope very well [[DependingOnTheArtist (though whether her eyes are green, teal, or turquoise varies)]].
* ''VideoGame/StarFox'': A number of characters in the universe have green eyes...most of the time.
* ''VideoGame/SwordOfMana'': Main antagonist Julius has green eyes. Perhaps not surprisingly, he's a cheerfully {{Yandere}} ManipulativeBastard DeadpanSnarker who has [[TheVirus complicated]] [[TheWoobie issues]]. The same game also has a handful of heroic green-eyed blondes.
* ''VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss'': Luke Fon Fabre and Asch both have green eyes and red hair. Understandably, [[spoiler:as the former is a clone of the latter]]. It later becomes a plot point that [[spoiler:Natalia doesn't have green eyes and red hair, which are a feature of the royal family.]]
* ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia'': While it's not easy to see in the original game, due to the style of his character model, the OVA reveals that [[spoiler:RebelLeader and DefectorFromDecadence]] Yuan has strikingly bright green eyes. He's not only a grumpy DeadpanSnarker [[spoiler:who suffers from ChronicBackstabbingDisorder]], but a HalfHumanHybrid to boot.
* ''VideoGame/{{Touhou}}'': Parsee Mizuhashi has, by far, the most defined eye colour of any character, because she ''is'' the GreenEyedMonster.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Webcomics]]
* Agatha Heterodyne of ''Webcomic/GirlGenius'' has these. They're one of the SplashOfColor bits at the beginning.
* Jade Harley of ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'' has green eyes, matching--like the other three main kids--her chat text. Fitting in with the trope, she is a gardener and her game title is the "'''Witch''' of Space".
** The Disciple, the Dolorosa, their A1 counterparts, Jake English, and Calliope also have eyes of various green hues.
* ''Webcomic/{{Lackadaisy}}'' has a whole crop of these. [[FemmeFatale Mitzi]], [[ProfessionalKiller Mordecai]], and [[TheStoic Viktor]] are the three most prominent green-eyed characters, and all possess mysterious and even flat out wicked attributes.
* Penny from ''Webcomic/OutAtHome'' has the red-hair, green-eyes combo and is noted for having mental abilities that are somewhat magical.
* [[http://www.pennyrogers.org/ Penny Rogers]] is an AdventurerArchaeologist with green eyes, but her eye color isn't revealed until page 10.
* Kestrel from ''Webcomic/QueenOfWands'' and, later, ''Webcomic/SomethingPositive'', where she's notably the only character to have colored eyes.
* ''Webcomic/WoodenRose''
** [[http://www.woodenrosecomic.com/comic/chapter1/19.html Mr. Thorne. With close ups to make it noticeable]].
** The child. Once they stop being RedEyesTakeWarning and we have some hints that ChildrenAreInnocent, even ones like gnarled roots.
** Beatrice from ''Webcomic/TheDreamer'' has green eyes and brown/auburn hair.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Original]]
* Lady Gray, protagonist of ''Literature/TheGraystoneSaga'', is repeatedly mentioned to have vivid green eyes. Since she's an EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette who dresses exclusively in gray and black, they stand out all the more; the narrator, Tobiah, often finds them a little unsettling.
* Carolina from ''Machinima/RedVsBlue''. It's significant because [[spoiler:those green eyes are the main feature that she inherited from her father, the Director]].
* ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'': Pyrrha has very long, very red hair and some of the greenest eyes of any character. She is one of Beacon's star pupils, being Mistral's four-times champion, and has a reputation for being untouchable, partly due to her extremely powerful Semblance which controls magnetism. She has autumnal associations and colours, sometimes being depicted with maple leaves flowing from her Aura. [[spoiler:The Maidens of the Seasons are four girls gifted with unimaginable power to protect humanity and their [[BenevolentConspiracy guardians]] have identified Pyrrha as the future Fall Maiden.]]

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfTheGalaxyRangers'': Shane Gooseman's eyes are a very clear green and he's the blonde. His red-headed teammate (and love interest), Niko, is blue-eyed.
* Most [[DishingOutDirt Earthbenders]] in ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'' have green eyes, including Toph, although hers are a mix of green and gray, due to her blindness.
** Notably, in ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'', Bolin's eyes are very green.
*** Pema and her youngest child, Rohan, have bright green eyes.
*** Asami Sato also has green eyes, which suggests heritage from the Earth Kingdom.
* In the ''WesternAnimation/BatmanBeyond'' episode "Terry's Friend Dates a Robot", Louie had the tech build him a girlfriend with red hair and incredible green eyes.
* Ben and Gwen Tennyson have green eyes, and (as of ''WesternAnimation/Ben10AlienForce'') so do all of Ben's alien forms.
* Though ''WesternAnimation/CodeLyoko'' characters have black-on-white eyes, Aelita has had light green eyes in some shots and [[{{Fanon}} according to some fans]], Odd has green eyes too (when he doesn't have PurpleEyes instead or one of each).
* ''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom''. His eyes turn green whenever he transforms into his ghost form and sometimes flash green when he's still in human form, usually when he's angry.
** Weirdly, ''all'' the non-Caucasian characters have green eyes and some even have PurpleEyes.
* ''WesternAnimation/ExoSquad''. A minority of Neosapiens, most notably [[TheDragon Battle Minister Typhonus]], have green eyes.
* According to her driver's license, Frankie Foster from ''WesternAnimation/FostersHomeForImaginaryFriends'' has green eyes, but they appear black eyes.
* WesternAnimation/JanaOfTheJungle has green eyes, unlike Creator/HannaBarbera's other blonde heroines.
* In the DCAU ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeague'', John Stewart has green eyes, due to his GreenLantern powers. When he gives up his ring in The Blackest Night, the green bleeds away, showing black on white eyes.
* WesternAnimation/KimPossible, a redhead, and her arch-nemesis, Shego, who also has green ''skin''.
-->'''Monique:''' Someone's getting [[GreenEyedMonster green-eyed]]...\\
'''Kim:''' [[CompletelyMissingThePoint What?]] I've always had green eyes.
* Applejack and Big [=McIntosh=] from ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' both possess green eyes. They also both happen to make their living as farmers. In fact, the majority of the Apple family seems to have either green or golden eyes.
* Buttercup from ''WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls'' has green eyes that match her green dress.
* T.J. Detweiler from ''WesternAnimation/{{Recess}}'' had green eyes in the pilot (where everyone had a different character design). However, by the time the show premiered, he was given the standard black-on-white eye style (though, according to WordOfGod, he has blue eyes).
* Luigi in the ''WesternAnimation/SuperMarioBros'' cartoons, though he originally had blue eyes in the games, like his brother, Mario.
* Beast Boy of ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans'' has green eyes...which complement his green skin quite nicely! (Starfire doesn't count, since her eyes are monochromatic green.)
** Jericho also has green eyes. They're the last thing you see before he takes you over.
* [[PlanetEater Unicron]] from ''Franchise/{{Transformers}}'', for some reason, has green eyes. Decepticons normally have red eyes.
** In ''Anime/TransformersCybertron'', when [[BigBad Megatron]] gets upgraded with the Armor of Unicron somewhere between the events of ''Anime/TransformersEnergon'' and this show, his eyes turn green, just like, um, guess who.
* Evangelyne from ''WesternAnimation/{{Wakfu}}''.
* Flora from ''WesternAnimation/WinxClub'' has green eyes, which fits, seeing how she's the fairy of nature.
** Tecna has kinda green-blueish eyes as well.
* Caleb from ''WesternAnimation/{{WITCH}}'' and Nerissa have green eyes. They're one of the clues that [[spoiler:Nerissa is Caleb's mother.]]

tropes instead:

* ColorCodedEyes or MeaningfulAppearance: Green eye color used symbolically
for a thousand years"''
-->-- '''Music/DavidBowie''', "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)"

Despite the fact that cats can have a wide variety of eye colors, green is especially associated with them.
characterization.
* ElementalEyeColors:
Green eyes in fiction are also may symbolise Earth/nature powers, or [[WindIsGreen wind powers]].
* GreenEyedMonster: A metaphor for jealousy that
usually described as emerald or jade green, despite the fact that eyes as intensely green as various precious stones are very rare in RealLife and it's more typical for the green to have some brown in it (fiction tends to classify anything between brown and bright green as hazel eyes).

Oddly enough, ''not'' regarded as a warning of the GreenEyedMonster. Also has no connection to SicklyGreenGlow, apparently.

It should be noted that these eye color tropes are not just for characters who have eyes of this color, but when the color
doesn't actually stands for something significant to that character, like blue for water, green for earth, red for evil, etc.

This had led to jokes about how Yuuno had a hand in her conception since he's one of the not-so-common examples of a male with
involve green eyes.
* [[Myth/NorseMythology Loki]] of ''Manga/MythicalDetectiveLokiRagnarok'' is a ever mystical green-eyed redhead.

* ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire'':

* Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer has green eyes.

* "Green Eyes" by Crucifixion.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Video Games]]
* ''VideoGame/AmericanMcGeesAlice'' series: [[Literature/AliceInWonderland Alice Liddell]].
* ''Franchise/MassEffect'':
MarkOfTheSupernatural: Green eyes seem may be used to be common in the universe, at least compared to the present day.
Solid Snake is paler than his father

origins.
* Franchise/{{Ratchet|AndClank}} has emerald eyes. Clank had teal-ish eyes until the Future Trilogy, throughout which he sported bright, lime-green eyes.
* ''VideoGame/SengokuBasara'': Ishida Mitsunari is the only
SignificantGreenEyedRedhead: A plot-significant character in the series with green eyes, which are light and almost yellow at times. With his white skin and hair, they look very striking and may represent envy or corruption.
* Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog has intense green eyes. Older art pieces show Sonic originally had brown/black eyes. These changed to green when he became Super Sonic in the Genesis games.
** Rouge the Bat fits
whose importance is symbolised by this trope very well [[DependingOnTheArtist (though whether her eyes are green, teal, or turquoise varies)]].
It later becomes a plot
rare hair/eye combination.

Please change any incoming link to
point that [[spoiler:Natalia doesn't have green eyes and red hair, which are a feature of the royal family.]]
* ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia'': While it's not easy to see in the original game, due
to the style of his character model, the OVA reveals that [[spoiler:RebelLeader and DefectorFromDecadence]] Yuan has strikingly bright green eyes.

Fitting in with the
correct trope, she is a gardener and her game title is the "'''Witch''' of Space".
* ''Webcomic/WoodenRose''
** [[http://www.woodenrosecomic.com/comic/chapter1/19.html Mr. Thorne. With close ups to make
or delete it noticeable]].
** The child. Once they stop being RedEyesTakeWarning and we have some hints that ChildrenAreInnocent, even ones like gnarled roots.
** Beatrice from ''Webcomic/TheDreamer'' has green eyes and brown/auburn hair.

-->'''Monique:''' Someone's getting [[GreenEyedMonster green-eyed]]...\\
* Evangelyne from ''WesternAnimation/{{Wakfu}}''.
