The Seven Blue Mountains of Oz are a Land of Oz-based trilogy written and mainly illustrated by Melody Grandy.

The series consists of: The Disenchanted Princess of Oz (1995), Tippetarius in Oz (2000), and Zim Greenleaf of Oz (2005). The second book is an expansion on a short story that Grandy had previously wrote in 1983 called The Way to the Emerald City.

The Seven Blue Mountains is an episodic series that begins shortly after The Marvelous Land of Oz. It begins with a young princess named Amalea awakening from a nap to find herself transformed into a boy. When she visits a witch to find out how to fix her, it's revealed that the male form is Amalea's true form all along.

Unlike many Oz derivatives, The Mysterious Chronicles of Oz doesn't only take from L. Frank Baum's 14 books. It uses elements from Ruth Thompson's lesser known Land of Oz titles as well.

These books provides examples of:

  • Gender Bender: The first book starts with Princess Amalea suddenly transformed into a boy.
  • Gender Bender Angst: After having grown up as a boy, Ozma isn't comfortable after having returned to her original sex.
  • Sobriquet Sex Switch: Princess Amalea is turned into a boy and takes the alias "Amadin" (which is shortened to "Dinny").
