A book in the Endless Quest Gamebook series. The reader controls Gregor, a young orphan raised by gypsies as a thief. When he and his mentor come to a new town to liberate some people from their wealth, Gregor learns the town's under a curse. However a party of adventurers intent on venturing into the caverns under the town to break that curse could use the talents of a clever thief, and it could be the start of a more positive direction in life for Gregor.


The Endless Catacombs provides examples of:

  • Cool Old Guy: Father Justin, the party's cleric, who teaches Gregor he can be more than a two-bit gypsy thief, even a hero, if he has the courage to seize control of his destiny. Grimpen Seventhson, the party's wizard, slowly evolves into something of one too after they progress far enough for him to see the quest really isn't pointless, and he can avenge his slain teacher if they stick to it.
  • Evil Sorcerer: Not a lot to figure out, with a name like Luben Warlock.
  • The Heart: His skills at spotting traps and secret catches help too, but Gregor's main asset to the team is being their moral center.
  • Instant Expert: Before the first decision Gregor finds a magic dagger, its main power being to automatically make him skilled at using it.
  • Invisibility Cloak: Gregor finds one near the end.
  • Known Only by Their Nickname: The book specifically says "Gregor" isn't his real name, it's the name the gypsies gave him when they adopted him as a baby. It's all the book calls him, even early on when one of the other party members turns out to be his older brother, who'd logically know his birth name.
    • Then again, the brother doesn't get a name beyond "Lord Bloodstone" either.
  • Love Before First Sight: Despite his claims of only following the orders of the White Council, Eric's on the quest to find and win the love of the sleeping sorceress, the Blue Lady, who he's loved just from seeing her picture and hearing stories of her goodness.
  • Plot Coupons: There are a few magic items you have to find to progress at different points. Made easier than in Dungeon of Dread, where as long as you don't die, you'll find them.
  • The Power of Friendship: The party defeats the villain by holding hands and believing in the righteousness of their cause, making the evil wizard disintegrate.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Pointed out by one of the characters that this isn't exactly the most inspiring party assembled in D&D history.
    "Quite a band of heroes, aren't we?" the wizard cackles as he strokes his beard, his rotten teeth gleaming. "A cowardly drunk, a gypsy waif, a lovesick prince, a crippled cleric, and a defrocked wizard."
  • Refusal of the Call: The book has a strangely high number of options to just run away and forget the problem of the curse.
  • Royal Rapier: Lord Bloodstone uses a rapier as his default weapon, but trades up to the magical Sword of Valor after properly finding his courage.
  • Unreliable Illustrator: The text describes Lord Bloodstone as wearing a plumed hat he uses to cover the wizard's light spell. The illustrations of the character show him wearing no headgear of any kind.
