Go To

Sam's Bumper Jumper is a 1985 picture book starring the cast of Fireman Sam.

Bella Lasagne attempts to knit a jumper for Sam. It ends up way too big, but later, still comes in handy.

Tropes:

  • Amusing Injuries: Sam getting his nose scratched up by a bothersome bird is Played for Laughs.:
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference:
    • Bella's cat Rosa is a black and white cat, not unlike Jess. When Fireman Sam was adapted into an animated program in 1987, she was changed to an orange tabby.
    • Sam is drawn with brown hair. The TV series (particularly after 2008) would establish him as a redhead.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When Sam drops the fire extinguisher from the ladder, all three remaining firemen calmly comment on the situation before they suddenly realize they're going to get hit and run away.
  • Funetik Aksent: Bella's Italian accent is represented by adding "-a" to several words in her dialogue.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Station Officer Steele mistakes Sam's jumper for an elephant rug, which makes Bella cry.
  • In-Series Nickname: It's implied that "Elvis" is not Fireman Cridlington's real first name, as it's presented in quotation marks.
  • Shout-Out: Upon seeing the massively oversized jumper, Elvis asks Bella is she used King Kong as a pattern.
