A Fractured Fairy Tale by Richard Roberts. Mary, a twelve year old girl, walks home from a halloween party wearing a red riding hood costume- on the way home, she finds herself lost in the woods, and stalked by the fairy tale wolf himself. Mary has somehow stumbled into the world of fairytales- and not the kid-friendly Disney version. Trying to get home, Mary must make her way through various fairy tales whilst being pursued by the big bad wolf, who is intent on eating and/or raping her.

Tropes

  • The Big Bad Wolf: The main villain of the story is the original big bad wolf himself
  • Grimmification: The dark and gritty version of fairy tales that Mary wanders through
  • Mature Work, Child Protagonists: The protagonist, Mary, is twelve years old, and after getting lost in the forest, accidentally stumbles into the world of fairy tales- only this isn't a kids book, and it's not the kid-friendly version of the fairy tales. In addition to a generally adult level of violence and death, the main villain of the book is the Big Bad Wolf, who is intent on either eating or raping Mary (or both).
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Mary wearing a sexy halloween costume could fall into this, although the book points out that the costume is actually not very revealing on her small form, and she only wears it because there's nothing else available.
  • Harmful to Minors: a twelve year old protagonist fleeing from a rapist wolf
  • Trapped in TV Land: Mary is caught in the land of Fairy Tales
