Natural Law is a 2022 Science Fiction novel by Solomonica de Winter. It tells the story of Gaia Marinos, who is raised by two men referred to as the Teacher and the Hunter in the wilds of New America, generations after civilization as we know it collapsed. As Gaia is a mutant, she not allowed to live by Natural Law. When she is discovered by soldiers of the Gregorian nation, her life – and the world – will change forever.

Tropes in this novel:

  • Action Mom: After delivering her son, Gaia goes straight into the gladiatorial games.
  • After the End: Modern civilization has fallen, and most of the old world is either submerged or covered by ice.
  • Child by Rape: Gaia’s son’s conception is heavily implied not to have been consensual. It doesn’t stop her from loving him any less.
  • Encyclopedia Exposita: During the first half of the novel, excerpts from the Natural Law are occasionally quoted between chapters.
  • Mama Bear: Once her son is born, Gaia’s mission in life becomes to protect him at all costs.
  • No Name Given:
    • Gaia is raised by two men referred to as the Teacher and the Hunter. Their actual names are never mentioned.
    • When Gaia gives birth to her son, she literally doesn’t name him, deciding that Son will be sufficient.
