How Much Is That Doggie in the Window? is a Picture Book written and illustrated by Iza Trapani. First published in 1997, it is based off of the popular song "(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?"' written by Bob Merrill in 1952. The story is about a boy trying to make enough money to buy a dog he sees in a pet shop window.

This book provides examples of:

  • Girls Love Chocolate: Implied. When the boy's mother gets her toe stung by a bee, her son buys her chocolate candy to make her feel better.
  • Karmic Jackpot: The boy tries to earn more money to buy a puppy, but ends up losing most of it by doing nice things for his family. His family then surprises him with the puppy.
  • Piggy Bank: The boy is shown to have one when he initially tries to buy the puppy.
  • Precious Puppy: Surprisingly, yes. The puppy served as simply motivation for the the boy to work, but it was his generosity that got him the puppy.
  • Snakes Are Sinister: Downplayed, when the pet shop worker is offering the boy an another, cheaper pet, since he can't afford the puppy. All of the snakes are seen glaring at the boy.
