Eight-year-old Ellen, at first glance, seems to be cute little girl. However, there are three major things that makes her existence quite exceptional.

One: Her father is Rovel Vankrieft, eldest son of the noble house Vankrieft and the hero of the Kingdom of Tenbahl. Thought to have perished during a massive attack on their homeland by monsters. However, he was saved by a spirit that fought by his side, which leads us to...

Two: Lady Origin, the Queen of the Spirit Realm, one of the most powerful spirits in existence, fell in love with Rovel and she saved him by taking him to her domain. They got married and she soon gave birth to Ellen.

Three: Ellen, as a half-spirit, has the power to transform her surroundings by manipulating the elements of the periodic table. Which she can use to great effect, since she's a reincarnation of a scientist from modern day Japan with full access to her memories and knowledge from her previous life - a fact she's keeping secret from her doting parents.

This wholesome, if as overpowered as they are quirky, family of three lived comfortably in the Spirit Realm. However, they are forced to reconnect their old ties to the Vankreift household in order to defend their relatives' honor. An act that leads to Ellen's further involvement in the land... as well as an increasing interest in her from the Royal Family, who has a dark secret regarding the spirits.

Dad Is a Hero, Mom Is a Spirit, I'm a Reincarnator (Chichi wa Eiyuu, Haha wa Seirei, Musume no Watashi wa Tenseisha) is a Light Novel written by Matsuura. It was adapted into a Manga drawn by Yutaka Ohori and it is published in the Monthly Big Gangan magazine.

The series provides examples of:

  • A-Cup Angst: Three years after returning to the mortal world the only way Ellen has grown is grow four inches taller. She fears that since spirits stop growing early that, in spite of having an extremely well-endowed mother that she'll stay short, flat, and childish-looking into adulthood just like she did when she was human.
  • Alcoholic Parent: After receiving an omen at her wedding and later a curse mark, the entire kingdom knows that Aria, Sauvel's second wife, is in love with Rovel and is gossiped about. After she's shamed by Ellen for not caring for her Sauvel and told bluntly that Rovel will never be hers, she turns to wine.
  • Beautiful All Along: Sauvel, after cutting his beard, is actually just as handsome as his older brother. Before cutting his beard he looked as if he was older than 25, but looks almost like his brother once it is shaved off to the point he starts getting multiple letters from admirers.
  • Berserk Button: Alberto and the other servants didn't take kindly when Agielle insults the late Bauvel. The only reason they didn't tear her to pieces is that it would make Rovel and Sauvel look bad.
  • Child Prodigy: Being reincarnated from an adult scientist, Ellen is seen as this due to her knowledge of chemistry and maturity level.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Lady Origin despises any woman getting close to her beloved husband to the point that she would have burnt down the castle when Agielle tried to claim Rovel as hers. She also intimidates Aria when introducing herself to her future sister-in-law, knowing that she tried to come onto Rovel when they first met.
  • Courtroom Episode: The first arc has Rovel trying to get Sauvel and Agielle divorced.
  • Disappointed in You: A comedic version, but Ellen is able to force her father into doing anything by pretending to be mad or disappointed with him.
  • Fat Bastard: Agielle. After Rovel disappears she hops into bed with his brother claiming to be pregnant with their child in order for her father to keep the engagement with the Marquis' family. Then, when Rovel returns, she demands that Sauvel divorce her so she can marry Rovel as she was originally supposed to do.
  • God Guise: Ellen uses this to help her father and uncle in stopping Agielle's rampage. It's less heretical than the normal example since the Goddesses she's imitating just so happen to be her aunts.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Ellen is half-human, half spirit, born from her human father and spirit mother.
  • Hot God: Ellen's mother, Origin, is a sexy goddess, a claim that Rovel can agree with. Part of Ellen's A-Cup Angst is concern she won't grow to be nearly as beautiful as her mother.
  • Lonely Rich Kid:
    • Lafilia has not taken to being made the heir to a barony at all. She has no friends in it and nobody willing to spend any time with her that isn't an absolute requirement. Her parents don't love or even particularly like each other. Her father is busy and spends no time with her whatsoever, her mother has turned to alcohol since she's stuck in a loveless marriage and has even turned somewhat abusive. The servants only interact with her to help in her education, while they and everybody else around her including visiting royalty sing the praises of Ellen, a girl she's never met. As her grandmother (who 'also' has never spent time with her) puts it, the heiress of the house is being raised to see everyone in the mansion as her enemy. When she's kidnapped, it's not because she's a baron's daughter, it's because the kidnappers thought she was Ellen since neither they nor anybody else was aware another girl lived in the manor. When she gets saved, her life somehow gets worse. Her father became extremely overprotective. Cutting off any form of communication to the outside world and locking her in the mansion. Her mother still doesn't care about her, and the servants only still have eyes and praises for Ellen. When she finally gets a small break in being able to attend school, it's quickly ruined when Ellen visits with her father. It doesn't take long before everyone soon starts to compare her to Ellen, even going so far as to harass and bully her for both being born to a commoner mother and for being nothing when compared to her cousin.
  • Marriage of Convenience: Sauvel's second wife. Any chance they could have had to be happy was ruined by Rovel returning. Even if she signed the marriage book willingly the twin Goddess could tell she was really in love with Rovel and branded her for a false declaration of love.
  • Parental Neglect: Lafilia might be the heir to the house, but she's not regarded as important beyond a role to fill by anyone. Her father is too busy to spend any time with her and cares about her only as an heir than a daughter, and her mother has turned into an alcoholic who doesn't care for her at all since she's not the daughter of the Vankreift she actually wants to be with.
  • Rich Bitch: Agielle. Not only does she not care about spending her husband's money for her personal use, she even has the gall to insult the late Bauvel for 'stealing Rovel'. Lady Origin mentions that she lost the ability to be reasonable since all she cares about is Rovel, fame, money, and nothing else than those three.
  • Starter Villain: Agielle serves this for the beginning arc of the story when trying to divorced Sauvel and marry Rovel. Nothing in her timeline of events regarding her daughter's conception adds up and Ellen is able to sneak into the courtroom and expose Agielle's lies.
  • Stranded with Edison: Ellen was a gifted scientist in her previous life before she was reincarnated into a medieval fantasy world.
