People were respecting nature (so earthquakes and locusts were unleashed), believing in astrology (so the Earth was devastated by asteroids - "falling stars"), as well as spiritualism (so millions of people were possessed by demons and forced to kill their families).

The ''Christ Clone Trilogy'' by James [=BeauSeigneur=] is a Christian [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt End Times]] novel series, fictionalizing the story of [[Literature/TheBible Bible prophecy]] being fulfilled TwentyMinutesIntoTheFuture. As such, it technically qualifies as ScienceFiction, but reads more like a technothriller mixed with a DisasterMovie. The overtly supernatural content is introduced gradually from the second book onward.

The story is told primarily from the viewpoint of the journalist Decker Hawthorne, and spans over several decades, beginning with chronicling his work on a scientific expedition to analyze the Shroud of Turin. An old friend of his, Professor Harry Goodman, is a member of the expedition, and later reveals in private that he has found ''living cells'' on the Shroud, which he plans to cultivate. Decker, though not particularly religious, is uncomfortable with the implications, and the two don't see each other for another several years. When he later meets the Goodmans' "adopted grand-nephew," Christopher, he can't help but suspect... [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin um, well]].

The trilogy spans (obviously) three volumes:

* ApocalypseHow: Beautifully done, particularly in the second book, where a series of asteroid strikes manage to provide [[TheFundamentalist an almost-to-the-letter-literal interpretation]] of various Biblical prophecies while still being [[ShownTheirWork one hundred per cent grounded]] in scientific fact.

* AuthorFilibuster: Several characters make long speeches about why (fundamentalist) Christianity is [[AnviliCious the most reasonable faith there is]]. Perhaps unusually for Christian fiction, [[PathOfInspiration the villains]] also get to make their case, and it's ''not'' generally full of [[StrawmanPolitical strawmen]].

* CloneJesus: Well, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin duh]].

* [[DeadGuyOnDisplay Dead Guys On Display]]: The bodies of John and Cohen, the Two Witnesses, were left untouched and unburied for four days after Christopher Goodman had killed them.

* [[DoomedHometown Doomed City]]: Babylon is destroyed near the end of the third book.

* GodIsEvil: Christopher's belief about the God of the Bible, which fuels his motive for having the people of the world turn against Him. Also many readers after reading about God's motivation for the atrocities he performs in the books.

* PathOfInspiration: [[spoiler: Christopher Goodman]] sets up a false religion with the intent to mislead people. Among the things instituted are euthanasia for anyone who wants it, and public orgies. Its beliefs include the idea that [[AncientAstronauts ancient aliens]] seeded all life on Earth, a progressive reincarnation to higher spiritual enlightenment, spirit guides, astrology etc. All stuff that fundamentalist Christians hate, naturally.

* PropheciesAreAlwaysRight: Played straight. Beauseigneur offers a more "realistic" take on many of them than, say, ''Literature/LeftBehind'', but they all show up in order.

* BerserkButton: [[spoiler: Christopher Goodman doesn't like hearing from Decker that, instead of insulting both Christopher and God when they both go to hell, Decker himself will be praising God for giving him exactly what he deserves.]]

* GodAndSatanAreBothJerks: After the reveal that [[spoiler: Christian theology is in fact true]] it means that it was indeed [[spoiler: the Christian God]] that has unleashed a series of horrors upon the Earth for the unspeakable crime of [[spoiler: a few people believing in certain New Age trends]], while [[spoiler: the Antichrist]] has been successfully deceiving the world by harnessing humanity's anger for all of this for [[spoiler: some apparent power trip he gets out of making God sad for having to damn people to eternal damnation.]] Keep in mind, billions of people were already killed or tormented in horrific supernatural ways indiscriminately, including newborn babies and children, for no readily apparent reason. Almost makes the [[spoiler: the Antichrist's death camps for Christian dissidents]] look merciful by comparison. In summary [[spoiler: God will do horrible things to the world for no good reason, but one should worship Him anyway]]. And with [[spoiler: Christianity]] being true, that means that all those people killed are now in Hell suffering for eternity. The only response? "Oh well, they had a choice. [[spoiler: God]] feels bad about it."
