Between Heaven and Earth is a novel by Eric Walters. It is his entry into the Seven series.
DJ, the oldest of his grandfather's seven grandsons, has attended his grandfather's funeral recently. At the viewing of his grandpa's video will, all seven kids learn that they've each been tasked with a different request from their grandfather. DJ's is to go to Africa and climb Mt. Kilimanjaro so he can spread some of his father's ashes there.
So, out of love for his grandpa, DJ sets out to take the climb. Soon, it becomes apparent that this climb will take everything DJ has to pull it off.
The book was published on October 10th, 2012.
Between Heaven And Earth contains examples of:
- Agony of the Feet: DJ takes off his too-small sandals to chase after the kids who stole his bags. He then gets a shard of glass in one of them.
- Cool Old Lady: Doris certainly counts, being the nicest to DJ and Sarah on the trip.
- Karma Houdini: The kids who stole DJ's bags soon after he arrived in Africa. Not only do they not get punished, but DJ also has to buy his bags back from them, much to his chagrin.
- Scaling the Summit: DJ's hike to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
- So Proud of You: DJ says in the epilogue that Mr. Odogo said he was proud of his daughter for reaching the top of the mountain.
