A Lily Blooms In Another World (Isekai ni Saku wa Yuri no Hana) is a Yuri isekai Light Novel written by Ameko Kaeruda (Sexiled) and illustrated by Shio Sakura. J-Novel Club published the book in English in 2020.
This work provides examples of:
- Beta Couple: On Day 10 Miyako meets Maria, Shan Li's wife, and hears the story of how they met. This is a notably plot-relevant example of this trope, as this is just after Fuuka has left for the capital, leaving a letter to Miyako claiming it's impossible for them to have a life together as two women. Seeing two older, happy women make a life together inspires Miyako to not give up and decide to go after Fuuka.
- Big Damn Heroes: Miyako arrives on Umi's back in the book's climax to save Fuuka from the flooding Enot River.
- Covered in Scars: Miyako notices Maria has many faint scars on her face and arms, remnants of her past as a mercenary.
- Cuteness Proximity: When Umi takes on a more cat-like form, Miyako is worried by Fuuka's seemingly negative reaction, only for it to turn out that Fuuka loves cats.
- Double-Meaning Title: The "yuri" in the original Japanese title refers to the fact that lilies haven't been cultivated yet in the world of Drop Fantasia, but it of course also refers to the love between Miyako and Fuuka. The epilogue reveals that the two are happily living together and that Fuuka is working to cultivate the flower, meaning that lilies are blooming both figuratively and literally.
- Driven to Suicide: This is one of Fuuka's possible fates in the original story of Drop Fantasia, something Fuuka finds unforgivable cruel. It's implied that Fuuka agrees to take part in the river ceremony as a passive way of suicide.
- Extreme Doormat: Towards the end of the book Miyako thinks about how she was this in her past life, submissive and unable to say no.
- Flower Motifs: Lilies. Early in the story, when Miyako presents Fuuka with a bouquet of roses, she thinks about what she really wishes she could give Fuuka is a lily to go in her hair, but is unable to as the world of Drop Fantasia has not yet cultivated the flower. When Miyako goes to Fuuka with intentions of saving her, she presents her with a lily that managed to sprout in the garden of her family's second home. The book's epilogue reveals that Fuuka is working to cultivating them, fufilling the light novel's title.
- Heroic Bastard: It turns out that Fuuka is actually the daughter of Dan Hamilton and his mistress. Despite being the "villainess" character of Drop Fantasia, her selfless attitude and actions during the events of the book prove her to be more of a hero than anything.
- I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Miyako originally comes up with her plan to spirit Fuuka away out of the simple desire of wanting to give her a happy life— it's not until three days into their stay together that she realizes that she's also doing it out of love.
- Kindhearted Cat Lover: Fuuka is revealed to have a deep love of cats.
- Love Epiphany: After being unable to get her memories of Fuuka in the bath out of her head, Miyako is stunned to realize she's in love with the other girl.
- Meaningful Name: Miyako decides to name the undine Umi, which literally means "sea."
- Meido: Miyako sneaks into the Hamilton mansion while disguised as a servant— i.e, in a maid outfit. Miyako is then promptly distracted by the idea of getting Fuuka to wear a maid outfit as well.
- Not a Morning Person: Despite sticking to a strict schedule, Fuuka is secretly not a morning person. Her commitment to waking warly to study every day is something Miyako finds adorable.
- Older Than They Look: Shan Li is thirty years old but could easily pass for half that age, though as Miyako learns, that's a bit of a sore spot for her. It turns out that Shan Li isn't just unusually young looking, she's actually from a legendary clan called the Mountain Sage's Kin that seemingly possess eternal youth. Members of the clan are seen as status symbols among nobles classes back in the Continent, putting them at danger of abduction.
- Queer Flowers: The lily Miyako wishes to give to Fuuka (and is eventually able to) is of course a symbol of her romantic feelings for Fuuka, even if it takes her a while to realize it herself.
- Reincarnate in Another World: Miyako was originally an overworked Japanese wage slave who died of over-exhaustion and reincarnated in the world of her favorite otome game.
- Rescue Romance: Shan Li and Maria tell the story of how they met this way.
- Servile Snarker: This is Odina's dynamic with Klaus.Klaus: To think... Fuuka was head over heels for me as well! Unable to marry me, she got desperate and snatched Miyako away!!Odina: That is a very... novel interpretation, my lord.
- Sole Survivor: Ten years ago, back when civil war raged in the Neese Continent, Maria was the only survivor of her family and the only survivor of her platoon later when she became a solider. The only reason she's able to survive is thanks to the help of Shan Li.
- Statuesque Stunner: Maria is "tall enough to stand shoulder to shoulder with the soldiers of the capital" and is described by Miyako as having a cool, mature beauty.
- Tsundere: Fuuka, as a proper otome villainess.
- You Wanna Get Sued?: When the Undine asks Miyako to name it her first suggestion is "Vaporeon".Undine: I can't say for sure, but it feels like that infrringes on something, so I'll reject it.
