  • The entirety of Edmond and Mercedes' interaction before things went to pot. They were a loving and faithful couple who promised to be engaged for however long it took for Edmond to be financially stable enough for marriage. And thanks to his new promotion, that would've happened sooner than they thought. Had it not been for Mondego's envious plot, one gets they feeling they would've lead a long, beautiful marriage together.
    • There's also the Chekhov's Gun with Mercedes using a piece of wicker to fashion a makeshift engagement ring to vow undying love for Edmund. If not for how it comes back later in the story, there's also the context that she wore it to signify how she'll appreciate him whether he's rich or poor.
  • Although it's meant to frame how their happiness won't last long, there's the dinner between Mercedes, Edmund and his father, celebrating his new promotion and the couple's engagement. It's such a happy moment, while it lasts.
  • The entirety of Edmond's time with the Priest. Given Edmond's hellish experience in prison up until this point, the Priest acts like the first friend and source of comfort Edmond's had in seven years. And when he offers to teach Edmond about economics and philosophy, the Priest doesn't judge him one instant when the poor man offers "How to read and write?"
  • Jacopo's Undying Loyalty to Edmond. Best summarized with this line from him.
"I'm still your man, Zatarra. I swore an oath that I will protect you. Even if it means that I must protect you from yourself."
  • Edmond delivering a toast to Albert, when he didn't really have to, is very sweet. Doubly so when you have the knowledge that Edmond is Albert's true father.
"Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man, is what you do when that storm comes. You must look into that storm, and shout as you did in Rome: "Do your worst! For I will do mine." Then the fates will know you as we know you. As Albert Mondego, the Man."
  • When Mercedes confronts Edmund after all these years, she reveals that she never tossed out the engagement ring she fashioned those 15 years: like her love for Edmund, she still has it. This is part of what helps lower Edmund's barriers, as her influences start to help Edmund heal. The cherry on top is when they make out in Edmund's bed, which he previously didn't want to sleep in.
  • The very next morning, Jacapo delivers news from Edmund to Mercedes that if she wishes to, Edmund has made up his mind to have her and Albert move in with him. Mercedes is so happy that she kisses a surprised Jacapo with absolute joy!
  • Edmund visiting the prison one last time to pay his respects to the Priest, telling him that to atone for his vengeful ways, he plans to use his wealth to help others.
    • Generally, the story ending on the note that after 15 years of adversity and injustice, Edmund has everything he could ever ask for: a loyal friend, a loving wife, a son to raise, the means to provide for them all, and the knowledge that his enemies can't hurt him or anyone else ever again.
    • The last shot being of the carved letters "God will give me justice", as though confirming that for all the hardships he went through, Edmund found justice and can at last live well.
