  • Hyun's actions in Episode 2 are both heart-warming and awesome. He ventures out of his room for the first time since the apocalypse, makes his way through a monster-infested building, and fights and seriously injures one of the monsters, all to rescue two children he'd never met before. Then, while escaping with the children, he suffers a severe nosebleed — one of the signs a person is turning into a monster — and starts hallucinating. In spite of this he has enough presence of mind to warn the children to stay away. When another monster attacks them, he physically holds it back until they can escape.
    Hyun: How old are you?
Sook-yeong: (tearfully) I'm nine and my little brother is six years old.
Hyun: (tries to smile encouragingly) You know, those are the perfect ages to fight monsters.
  • Right before Myeong-sook turns, her final actions are to knit scarves for the children and to cook one last meal for Du-sik, Sook-yeong, and Yeong-sook.
  • Jae-hwan sincerely congratulating Seung-wan for passing the boards and telling him not to give up on his dreams.
  • After he drags out Yoon-jae's corpse, Sang-wook prepares to close the gate behind him. However, Jae-heon prevents him from doing so and it's even implied that he was the one who told everybody about why Sang-wook did what he did (Yoon-jae was a pedophile who kidnapped the little girl Sang-wook had been trying to find).
  • After her daughter's death, Jin-ok is understandably depressed and barely capable of speaking or eating. Even though they've only just met, Ji-su takes the time to comfort her and even hands her an energy bar she'd been saving for herself.
    • What with Ji-su's ex-boyfriend having died in an equally traumatic way (he committed suicide and she was the one who discovered his body), she probably has an idea of what Jin-ok is going through.
Ji-su: Go on, eat up. You need strength to miss somebody, you know.
  • Jae-heon reassuring Sang-wook that God doesn't pick favorites and that if Sang-wook chooses to pray right then, God will still listen to him.
  • Sun-young offering Yi-kyung food at the risk of getting beaten by her husband. When they start having suspicions that the latter is pregnant, Sun-young immediately gives her a pregnancy test and starts telling her how to better take care of herself.
  • Episode 7 has a ton of them:
    • Eun-yu—who thus far has been at odds with her brother—wordlessly repairing his glasses with a spare piece of bandage.
    • Sang-wook finally letting Yu-ri help him, even going so far as to show her all of his scars.
    • Mr. Han dusting Yeong-sook off when Sook-yeong, in a fit of anger, pushes him, and reminds them both that it's alright for children to play.
    • Ji-eun offering to share her meal with Hyun and Hye-in telling off the other survivors for always staring at him.
    • Mr. Ahn breaking the ice between him, Hyun, and Sang-wook by recounting how he's managed to survive thus far, and smiling like the kindly grandfather that he is when they finally find the appetite to dig into their meals.
    • When Seung-wan understandably panics after finding out that their supplies are running low, Mr. Ahn calms him down by sternly, yet kindly pointing out that those who panic in times of crises are the ones who end up dead. He then reminds Seung-wan to take better care of himself.
    • Later on, Seung-wan seeks out Sang-wook—whom he had been afraid of since Day One—and apologizes for panicking, saying that he deserved to be hit for the nasty things he'd said and done (shoving an injured Jae-heon into the display cases and pulling a box cutter on Eun-hyuk). Sang-wook, visibly moved by the other man's humbleness, also apologizes for hitting him.
      • Having heard the entire exchange, Jae-heon smiles and compliments Sang-wook on his improving people skills.
    • Ji-su improvising on an old guitar she'd found and letting Hyun sit with her when he tells her how much he likes her music.
    Hyun: "Sweet Home."
    Ji-su: Hmmm?
Hyun: The song. It makes me feel like I'm home.
    (She smiles and keeps playing)
    Ji-su: Thank you.
    Hyun: What for?
Ji-su: This song didn't have a title yet. You just gave it a perfect one.
    • All the tenants working together to save Ji-su, who has acquired appendicitis.
      • Special mention goes to Eun-hyuk, who seeks out Hyun right before they leave and says "If there's trouble going to the hospital, getting food is optional. Saving Ji-su isn't."
  • In Episode 8, when Sun-young admits to experiencing the symptoms of monsterification and announces her decision to leave, all the other tenants immediately vote no and beg her to stay with them, albeit in isolation instead. Prior to this, they were all enjoying a good meal, with Hye-in even offering to share her face masks with the group and Byung-il joking that Seung-wan needs every single one. They've definitely come a long way from the scared group of people who wanted to vote Hyun out as soon as they found out he was a monster.
  • Eun-yu teaching Hyun how to do the rude finger gesture she used earlier on the asshole shopkeeper. When he fails, she makes him do a pinky promise with her instead. When he asks what the promise was, she tells him with a smile that it's a secret. It's later revealed that she asked him to survive, not just for them, but also for himself.
    • Eun-hyuk then shows up and sarcastically says "Congratulations. You've found your first love," to which Eun-yu immediately announces how much Hyun is embarrassing her. While she rants, both boys try to hide their smiles. It definitely gives you the impression that had the circumstances been different, those three would've been great friends.
  • Ji-su waking up post-surgery, only to find Jae-heon sleeping and keeping vigil at her bedside.
    Ji-su: You're a good person, Jae-heon.
Jae-heon: I'm trying to live according to God's will.
Ji-su: Yeah, well, anyway, you did save my life.
Jae-heon: That also is God's will.
Ji-su: Hey! Relax. I'm saying thank you.
Jae-heon: Well, thank you, too ... for waking up.
    • He also promises to give her sword-fighting lessons when she gets better.
  • When Jae-heon dies and Ji-su is inconsolable, Eun-yu of all people seeks her out, gives her chocolate, and comforts her in her own way, even sharing why she quit ballet in the first place.
Eun-yu: You seem to think your life is the most pitiful. Sorry, but it's not. I'll prove it to you. I'm going to survive with you until the end.
    • She also gives Ji-su what's left of Jae-heon's katana, knowing how much it would mean to the older girl.
  • Sang-wook visiting Jae-heon's grave and pouring his soju all over it. Even though they got off on the wrong foot and were only friends for a short while, it's extremely obvious that Jae-heon's kind words and warm outlook on life meant a lot to Sang-wook.
Sang-wook: Jung Jae-heon ... drink all you want up there.
  • In Episode 9, Sang-wook shows a rather protective side towards Yeong-sook and even tells the kid to close his eyes, right before he murders a gangster that had been shooting at them.
  • In the same episode, when Yu-ri saves Ji-su from being raped and tortured, keep in mind that she's using Jae-heon's katana to do the deed. In a way, Jae-heon was still protecting the love of his life, up until the very end.
  • Mr. Ahn hugging Du-sik in relief after Yi-kyung successfully kills their captor. Prior to that, there's Byung-il and Seung-wan—two of the cowardliest members of their party—teaming up to get him to stop beating Yi-kyung.
  • Sang-wook helping Yu-ri with her inhaler and reassuring her gently when she tells him that she killed a person.
    Sang-wook: It's okay. You're okay. That wasn't a person anymore.
    • There's also Sang-wook turning Yeong-sook's face away from the sight of the gangster's corpse when they finally find Ji-su and Yu-ri.
  • From the season finale, Ji-su asking about Hyun after his transformation.
    Ji-su: How is he?
    Eun-hyeok: He doesn't remember anything.
Ji-su: How much does he ...
    Eun-hyeok: I'm not entirely sure.
Ji-su: If he can't remember ... then I want him to forget all the bad memories.
    • Just Ji-su carrying Jae-heon's katana with her everywhere she goes. The man may be gone, but her feelings for him clearly aren't.
  • Also from the season finale, it's revealed that Du-sik went out of his way to create special medals for the children, probably to cheer them up on a particularly gloomy day. Although it was quite sad that he couldn't give them to Sook-yeong and Yeong-sook himself, seeing as he was quite close to turning, he entrusts Mr. Ahn to do the job for him right before it happens, which the old man gladly does.
