The Series:
Season 1
1 - First, the Weather Changed- Miles, a child, renews his determination to become an engineer not just to live a better life on the train, but because Layton was taken. Most never return, so Miles wants to find out what happened.
- Melanie and Brakeman Roche do not take kindly to Osweiller beating up Layton and Till standing aside, they practically swoop in and send them away, apologizing to Layton for their treatment.
- Jinju and Melanie’s friendship, Melanie is familiar enough with Jinju to tell when the other’s in love, and is happy for her.
- Layton and Pike spend most of the episode arguing, but just when Pike is finally giving up after seeing the deaths of their people and opponents, Layton reminds him they were in this together.
2 - Prepare to Brace
- Till gets mad when a jackboot mocks Layton for being a Tailie, and starts to kick his ass. Compared to when she initially stood aside during abuses of power, she now cares enough to do something about the disrespect.
3 - Access is Power
- Layton’s reunion with Miles, despite both gushing about how things are so much better, both secretly assure the other that they haven’t forgotten the people of the Tail.
- The wedding rings Zarah and Layton have held onto for so long, when Zarah first left for the Nightcar, Layton gives her his in case she needs to trade it. It turns out while Zarah traded hers, she couldn’t bring herself to do the same with Layton’s.
4 - Without Their Maker
- Astrid is frightened of Josie’s presence, knowing it could send her back to the Tail, but ultimately chooses to help them.
- Josie, like Layton in the first episode, seeing the sunrise.
5 - Justice Never Boarded
- Till and Jingu committing to each other.
- Till helping Josie rescue Layton from the drawers.
6 - Trouble Comes Sideways
- The way Bojan Boscovic playfully explains his job as a Breachworker to the children in class is a nice change of pace for the series and shows how deeply he cares for them.
- Lights and The Last Australian setting up a projector that shows images of the outside to the Tail, particularly to Patterson and Winnie who just lost their mother.
7 - The Universe Is Indifferent8 - These Are His Revolutions
9 - The Train Demanded Blood
- Layton insisting the Tallies help an unconscious Roche.
Season 2
1 - The Time of Two Engines- After learning that Zarah is pregnant with Layton's child, a delighted Ruth arranges for her to be moved to a spacious suite in First Class.
- Melanie is finally reunited with her daughter Alex.
- Wilford's dog is happy to see Melanie.
2 - Smolder to Life
- Layton and Roche promote Till to become the new Train Detective. While Till is apprehensive, Roche is delighted to administer the oath.
- Melanie, Bennett, and Javi send a balloon into the atmosphere to gage the atmospheric temperature... and discover that the atmosphere is actually warming. Cue enormous, happy grins from all three characters.
3 - A Great Odyssey
- Josie is understandably pissed at Layton for his post-revolutionary compromises, especially for working with Melanie after what she did to her. However, she refuses to be angry about him getting back together with Zarah, on the grounds that she's pregnant with his baby.
- Till promises Lights to find whoever maimed her hand and make sure that they'll never do it again.
- Melanie managing to get through to Alex and properly bond with her.
- Despite being mad at Melanie for lying to her about Mr. Wilford, Ruth promises to watch over Alex while Melanie is off the train for a month. She tells Melanie that they'll all be waiting for her at the Tail when she comes back.
- At the end of the episode, Alex and Melanie tearfully hug goodbye as the former finally acknowledges Melanie as her mom.
4 - A Single Trade
- Alex manipulates the "random draw" so that her friend Emilia gets shore leave aboard Snowpiercer. This ends up paying dividends, as it turns out that Emilia is Australian, meaning that the Last Australian discovers that he's not as alone as he thought. The two immediately hit it off upon meeting.
- The Headwoods openly share their healing goop with the frostbitten passengers aboard Snowpiercer, and readily offer to take Josie back to their lab on Big Alice to heal her.
- Ruth agrees to give Zarah a job in Hospitality, further protecting her from the wrath of all those downtrain who remember that she sold out Josie.
- When Josie realizes that she'll need to be transferred to Big Alice in order to have any hope of having her face and body restored, all the Tailies show up to give her a hero's send-off. Particularly heartwarming is her reunion with Miles, who calls her "Mom" and proudly announces that he's been promoted from general engineering to living systems.
- Till finds a new lover, a bartender in the Night Car.
- Alex and LJ bond over a shared joint in one of the observation pods.
- Everyone cheering as the launched weather balloon is contacted by Melanie at the research station, meaning she made it safely and there's a chance to start building towards a life outside the trains.
6 - Many Miles From Snowpiercer
- Melanie's discovery of the geothermal refugium, where some small plants and a colony of rodents have miraculously survived the Freeze.
7 - Our Answer for Everything
- Ruth risks her own safety to find Winnie and protect her from the mob that has engulfed Snowpiercer.
- In order to save Pike from the mob's attempt to take his arm, Layton steps forward and offers up his own arm... only for Ruth to step in and shame the mob into dispersing while also re-affirming her loyalty to Layton.
8 - The Eternal Engineer
- Mrs. Headwood keeps poor Icy Bob company as he dies from the severe frostbite incurred by Wilford sending him out into the cold to sabotage the train.
- Oz accidentally confesses that he likes LJ. LJ looks genuinely and pleasantly surprised for once, and the two end up sharing a kiss. Despite the two's past history of being terrible people, it's nice to see them genuinely happy for maybe the first time in the series.
Season 3
5 - A New Life- Bennet cheering up Josie through distraction whilst Zarah is in labour. As she learns to drive Snowpiercer she also feels willing to confide her in him about her health worries.
- Sykes confiding in Javi that she understands his situation and being unexpectedly gentle with him when his anxiety attacks hit.
10 - The Original Sinners
- The reactions of those who made the trip to New Eden, watching the temperatures rise, and their wonder as they step out of the train cars and into the sunlight for the first time since the world ended. There's a pervasive sense that the sacrifices, trials, and tribulations they'd been through were Worth It.
