Heartwarming / Say Yes to the Dress

Go To

  • In the Atlanta version, a young woman came in with only that day to shop. She was an ill girl about to start heavy duty chemo for a recurrence of cancer the next day. Lori, the store's owner and a cancer survivor, was determined to find her the perfect dress, even if the store had to stay open late, and ended up putting the bride in a dress more than $1000 over the bride's limited budget. Lori heavily discounted the dress so the young woman could stay within her budget and have her dream dress.
    • Also, the bride at first wanted to cover her shoulders, as her chemotherapy would result in scarring that she didn't want to be visible on her wedding day. She also mentions how important it was to find a dress that day, because she wanted to see herself in a dress without scars. Lori encourages her to show her scars, as they show how she's a survivor and how brave she is.
  • In the original, one of the brides turned out to be a survivor from the Boston Marathon Bombing who still suffered severe physical consequences (i.e., she'd have to get her leg amputated). Again, Randy and Co. worked very, very hard to get her the perfect dress.
  • In the original, a bride was mentioned to have gone to about 80 different shops in several different countries without finding a dress. It quickly became apparent that it was due to the mother's attitude towards her daughter, and Randy became so disgusted at her attitude that he almost left the appointment all together. However, he wound up staying and he gave the bride a very sweet pep-talk in a bid to give her her confidence back.
  • The UK version had an episode with a young bride who'd lost her eyesight to a disease some years before. When discussing how this impacted her life, she talked about how frustrating it was to never be 100% sure of what she looked like. However, she could still see some glimmers of light sometimes. The consultants found her a dress with glitter in the skirt that she could actually see. When she tried it on, she began weeping because she felt truly beautiful for the first time in years.
  • The bride from the Atlanta version who wanted a black dress had to deal with her mom not being on board for that, and constantly trying to push her into wearing traditional white. In an interview, her brother admits he also likes the more traditional look... but it doesn't matter what he likes, because it's his sister's wedding, and it's his job to support what she wants. He ends up helping talk their mom into accepting what his sister wants. And in the end, when her mom sees the dress, she loves it, and admits the dress is perfect for the bride.
  • In the Atlanta version, a bride comes in and mentions how difficult it's been planning her wedding and trying to find her dream dress after her mother's murder, and how much she wants her mother to be there and at her wedding. Throughout the appointment, she tries on dress after dress with no luck, becoming more and more disappointed. The whole store hunts for a dress for her, and when the bride puts their pick on, her face immediately lights up, and she tearfully states her mother would have loved it. Lori also gives her the dress for free.
