Heartwarming / Lola and Mr. Wrinkles

• Mr. Wrinkles may sling sarcasm around a lot and will resort to pranks (including invoking What a Drag) when irritated, but he clearly has a soft spot for Hugo, most notable in the "Randal the Bone Thief" arc. When Brutus comes over to teach Hugo self-defense, Mr. Wrinkles objects that Hugo can't make himself confront Randal and asks if Brutus could just scare the raccoon for him. When Hugo does successfully scare Randal off, Mr. Wrinkles gives him a smile and a thumbs up.
• Another example occurs while Brutus and the other pets are playing hide and seek. Brutus easily finds Hugo, hiding face-first in a trash can and chuckling about how he'll win this time. However, Mr. Wrinkles asks him to let Hugo have the win, arguing that it's not fair to expect him to hide properly when he's so huge.
  • To elaborate: Wrinkles probably would have won. Hugo was trying to hide in a garbage can and Lola was pretending to be a tree (by holding sticks and twigs in her paws and mouth). Wrinkles had climbed a tree and was laying on a branch, well out of the sight lines of Brutus. Wrinkles whispered to Brutus to get his attention, getting caught first, just so Hugo could get a W.
• One strip shows Hugo saying goodbye to his human at the bus stop. He sits there in the snow waiting for him until he falls asleep.
• Pixie and Lola play a superhero game with Pixie as the heroine and Lola as the evil Dr. Paperface. Lola gets really into it and Brutus compliments her, saying that he thinks she's better than he is at playing pretend.
